In the middle of packing....I did not realize I had so many books!
I'm moving in a couple of weeks and I've started packing up.

I've packed 11 boxes of books and I'm not even half-way done!

It's going to be a pain in the ass come moving day but you know what?

I wouldn't part with a single one. ;-)

"A room without books is like a body without a soul." -Cicero.

1. My dear proteus_lives...
I'm with you on books!

When we moved, we found we had about 1000... :scared:

But we were lucky...our movers packed them for us!

We wouldn't part with ours either...

Cicero had it right. I think the only rooms here that don't have books are the bathrooms and the laundry!

Enjoy your new home!

I hope it has lots of book space!

4. Counting comic books, I'm easily past the 1000 mark.
I don't have a laundry room but I usually have a stack of "john-reading" in the bathroom. ;-)

Thanks for the kind words, I'll find the space!

:hi:

2. When friends of mine...
.
...moved from Tucson to Washington State several years back, they packed up all the
music and books that they didn't want to lug with them to yet ANOTHER location and
exchanged them with a fantastic indie used book store here in Tucson (Bookman's) for
store credit.
.
On their way out of town, they stopped by my place and presented me with a receipt
worth (if I remember correctly) over $400 in credit at the store.
.
I'm just NOW using up the very last of those credits. My latest acquisitions? Re-reading
two adolescent favorites -- "Stand on Zanzibar" by John Brunner and "Cannery Row" by
John Steinbeck.
.
One of the coolest gifts I've ever gotten.

9. Cannery Row - loved it since I was a teenager.
What an awesome gift your friends gave you! Wow!

Last time I moved I had 24 boxes of books and 22 boxes of everything else.

6. I love that quote.
I am literally uncomfortable in houses that have no books, and I've been in more than one.

14. It is creepy.
It's even creepier when people say, "I don't read/I don't like to read".

To me, that's like saying, "I don't like breathing".

I'll remember that one. I agree, travel and visiting new places is important for a well-rounded life.

10. I can't move.
This is why I have to stay put: http://www.librarything.com/profile/sisaruus

I once told a New Haven book store owner how many books I have and he told me that it was more than his store inventory.

11. That's the spirit. I moved quite often in the last few years. I slowly got rid of
books I wanted to keep because it was just such a pain moving them. Now I am settled again and can start collecting books again. I love it.

15. They multiply
For example, if you put Wurthering Heights with anything by Thomas Hardy on the same shelf, within weeks you'll a bunch of little books about lusty Yorkshiremen and repressed Hampshire women.
