2. It's an e-train.

Elevated train - goes above and below ground. Used to ride them all the time in Chicago. Obviously, New York has them, too.

3. New York, outside Manhattan, has a LOT of aboveground,
and even some IN Manhattan (at the upper end). The 1/9 line is outside at 125th street, and then kicks outside again at about 180 or so.
