2. They're expensive, don't multitask, and won't play Flash videos (say goodbye to YouTube).

5. Youtube plays on it perfectly.
That's the only Flash allowed for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. And rumor has it that multitask is in the works. :hi:

10. ??? - That is a little contradictory with "doesn't support Flash".
What's the deal?

15. Hadn't heard of that. Funny how it can do that but can't "support Flash".
I think it is more of a political battle with Adobe than a technical matter.

4. Because it is always wisest to fill one's time with purpose,
as opposed to entertainment?

Become an expert on something. Read books, which are like I-pads but you can borrow them for free from your local library, and amazingly enough they put all their books on any given subject together, which makes it easy to educate yourself.

Volunteer. They will always need help at nursing homes and if you talk to some old people, they might be able to teach you things.

Make something. Anything. Just make something real, something useful if possible or decorative, something you can look at and say, I made that.

Don't pursue happiness. That's why the marketing scam gets you. Our society praises the pursuit of happiness, and happiness is not a butterfly you can catch in a net. Pursue purpose; happiness is sure to come along for the fun.

Hope that helps! :)

7. Wait for the next version
the one that connects to wi-fi and 3g.

And while you're waiting, talk yourself out of it entirely.

Is there anything an iPad can do that a regular laptop can't?

:hi:

12. If you really want one then wait for the next 3 versions to come out
Apple cripples their shit just so they can release newer versions at more expensive prices. I'm sure 5 versions down the road it will have removeable memory, flash, and USB ports.

Or in a couple months there will be tons of other companies coming out with Ipad clones that do lots more stuff.

17. go play with one
Maybe it will make you want it more, or less. But you'll have an idea what it's like, what it can do and can't.

Not sure why people think they need to multitask constantly. If it behaves like the iPod Touch, you can listen to iTunes music while doing other things, and it can alert you to calendar events while doing other things. And any application is just a button or two away.

And plenty of the big video sites are finding ways to be compatible...

Someone made a good distinction... it's not really geared to be a creation tool, but an entertainment tool. Web, games, photos, books, music, basic applications. 99% of what most people do with their laptops/desktops.

You probably don't need one. It does further expand your time spent as a consumer of entertainment, rather than the "real things" other people mentioned upthread.

19. I was kinda on the edge until I heard this--
streaming movies with Netflix

and

Godfinger on iPad (not yet released for iPhone, I can't wait)
http://godfinger.ngmoco.com/

Really, the iPad is just a portable entertainment center (a lot like my iPhone).

Maybe someday, but right now I just can't justify the expense. However, if someone would like to donate one....
