WARNING: If You Make It To My Ignore List...

Not that the two are officially connected in any way, shape, or form... it's just that 20% of the names on my ignore list have been tombstoned.

I was bored. So... I clicked to view the profiles of everyone on my ignore list and when I started seeing so many tombstones, I started over and kept count. --- Then I did the math and found out the percentage. (Actually it's a fraction OVER 20%, but I rounded down.)

I guess I'm getting better at judging which users to add to my ignore list... at only a 20% accuracy rate, I can definitely see room for improvement.

P.S. Check your ignore list and see how many are gone forever. Trust me... you'll get a great deal of satisfaction. You'll find yourself grinning and saying things to yourself like "I just KNEW that sonofabitch wouldn't last long!"

That's amazing! I don't have anyone on mine. Of course, there are a few people whose threads I just stopped opening because I didn't want to be infected with "teh dumm".

(If Allen doesn't reply, I guess I'll know I've been put on "ignore" and can wait for my day on the DU chopping block)

I'm definitely selective. I don't just put someone on ignore because they've pissed me off. They have to have demonstrated that they are beyond all hope (in my estimation) or that their maturity level has not developed beyond that of a 13 year old.

because the ones who have been banned were pretty obvious and easy to pick out.

ONE was a surprise (and a delight) because I thought he/she would NEVER get banned, but he/she was. But that's all I can say about that.

being willfully idiotic and mean spirited and narrow-minded is a prime consideration. --- I suppose I could keep clicking the boxes to hide the threads (on the off chance that someone MIGHT have something worthwhile to say) but that only works on threads that they START themselves.

And after awhile, it's abundantly clear that some folks are determined to show their asses no matter what.

My endearing trait is just that. There isn't an willfully idiotic, mean spirited, or narrow-minded bone in my body.

I have exactly one (1) lil' pr*ck on my ignore list and he's staying there. He's got well over a thousand posts too, so I know he's not a troll, but good lord I can't stand that guy....

Yep... that's how I started too. "Just this one asshole" I told myself. I thoguht for certain that I would never put anyone else on ignore. But I was wrong.

Before I knew it, I was addicted to the Ignore-Button. I'd find myself venturing into the seedy forums just LOOKING for a fight and looking for assholes that I could put on ignore.

I knew I had a problem. But I couldn't stop. I didn't care. I liked it. I LIKED IT!

And I still see the word "Ignore" after some of my posts. And after six months, I haven't been tempted to add another. I'm limiting myself to JUST ONE and showing, I'd say, an admirable amount of restraint.

I wish there was some way of finding out who has ME on ignore, though. That'd be neat. Mods, can we get that function anytime soon?

But as soon as I find out that the ones on my list were tombstoned I took them off. All of the ones on it now are still here. But one hasn't posted in a very long time.

I'm not falling for that. ---- Mentioning one's intention to ignore someone (deserved or not) or actually confirming that someone has been ignored (deserved or not) is considered a personal attack.

And I happen to agree with that rule since I'm already on many ignore lists myself. I know it... I just don't want to hear about it.

He/she is the only one. After the thread he/she is starting to spout off in is sunk, I'll take he/she off ignore.

I've only had to do this with one other person. It's topical, too. I can't stand to see he/she denigrate a certain poster. It's all done within bounds, but it's a cruel thing to see.

I've had my disagreements, but nobody has yet pissed me off to the point that I would ignore them.

on a regular basis. amazing how many of them were tombstoned.

I was a mod on a site where you're a mod for, like, forever unless you request to be a regular citizen again. Mods can't ignore users...they have to read every post in every thread in the subfora they're assigned....and after awhile I couldn't take it anymore and resigned so I could put soooooo many assholes on ignore.

I love the invisible thread feature on DU. :D
