Green Footprint idea for Earth Day = Feel the Earth with Your Feet

Walk barefoot on Earth Day. It’s what breathing would be if we had Air Day. It’s what cooking would be if we had Fire Day. It’s what swimming would be if we had Water Day. It doesn't have to be all day long. Heck, it doesn't even have to be a walk. Just let your bare feet make contact with the Earth and be aware of the soleful sensations.

“You can feel the floor and connect with the earth more easily without shoes,” Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us in his 2006 book "Walking Meditation." Nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967 by Dr. Martin Luther King, Hanh adds that with bare feet, “the flow between you and Mother Earth becomes stronger. The longer you practice walking with this connection, the more your heart will be softened and opened, and the more you will feel nurtured, solid, and taken care of by the earth.”

Let's see, walk barefoot to the park and eat fresh, locally grown food with friends and/or family on Earth Day ... or drive 25 miles to the big Earth Day festival where you'll pay $6 to park and $5.75 for beers in plastic cups. It being Earth Day, however, they will probably at least have easily identifiable recycling bins to Greenify your Oil Footprint.
