Poll question: Can you visualize? That is, do you have a mind's eye?
I'm pretty sure I'm going to be the only one who can't, and who doesn't. I don't think it's an Asperger's thing; it might be a "loss of early brain development caused by starvation due to infantile pyloric stenosis" thing. Or one of the times I got my bell rung during childhood. Regardless, I can hardly picture anything; when Alice and I were together, after some years I could picture her face, but that was about it. In spite of spending all my time with Amelia the cat, I can't really picture her if she's out of sight. Not that I need to; she keeps in sight nearly always.:)
And you?

1. I do; sometimes I wish I didn't.
I have a very active imagination, and can picture things in my head very well. If I try hard enough, I can "shut it off" for awhile, but not for very long.

3. sometimes I can, sometimes not
I have this odd thing where I can actually be looking at twins and not see the resemblance.
When discussing things like home improvements, I can't visualize what the change will look like.

4. depends on what you mean
Generally, yes.

If you mean visualize as in as clear as a dream picture (like watching a HDTV) then not easily. I CAN do that if I concentrate at with my eyes closed (usually at night) but it's hard to control.

5. Not only do I visualize objects
I also visualize non-object things and concepts such as time.

6. My mind's almost entirely visual and kinesthetic.
Words vanish when I'm not using them. Sometimes they vanish when I am using them. I can't keep words in my head at all. When I write or I talk it's about things I "see" in my head. I can't connect the kinesthetic to words hardly at all. If my hands or feet remember something the words just won't follow. When I'm alone not reading or writing there's no words in my head. I can just barely think about what I'm going to say to someone, or what someone said, or what they might say sometimes, but keeping words in my head is pretty futile overall, they just don't last.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to write this, but that's why I like forums like DU. I can take my time. "Instant Messaging" doesn't work for me.
