Italy's Macarena Craze - the "Fontanella"
I came upon this site by accident - a group of children doing some kind of group exercise, having a wonderful time at it. Then I searched by the name, and it seems that everybody in Italy knows this dance. They do it in restaurants, they do it by the pool, they do it at the beach. Everybody laughs and applauds.

Curiosity took hold, so I looked up the words, Apri Fontanella...Chiudi fontanella .. prendi l'energia ...mettila di qua!. Open, fontanella. Close, fontanella. Take energy, and put it here. "Fontanella," it turns out, is the soft spot at the top of your head. What kind of group meditation exercise is this? They start with their hands folded as if they're praying, and they all do it together. When they're finished, they all congratulate each other.

The mystery deepened until I discovered a popular singer named Momo. Her song "Apri Fontanella" is indeed some kind of group meditation exercise, but it's done for laughs. I couldn't imagine anything like that happening here, but then I remembered the Macarena.
