Any recommendations for an inexpensive, reliable cell phone plan?
My wife never uses her minutes. We've dropped down to the 450 minute plan with AT&T, but she still doesn't use all those. She uses the phone perhaps 300 minutes a month, mostly to talk to her mom out of state. Doesn't need text messaging, internet, GPS, camera, or any of that nonsense. She just wants a simple, cheap phone plan. Anything cheaper than $40 a month out there?

3. Is she on an individual or family plan?
If she doesn't use her phone much it probably makes more sense, assuming you do use yours, to do a combined plan rather than paying for her phone individually.

In terms of specific plans, those vary by area, as do the available carriers, so it's hard to say.

4. I use a pay as you go plan
It costs me about $20-30 a month depending on how much I use it. I use Verizon's version, but Walmart sells one that's even less, I think. I've used pay-go for as long as I've had a phone. Even convenience stores sell them. I think those are actually for drug deals or something and then the perp can toss the phone. But, they are reliable and cheap.

6. There are plans
that come with 200 minutes and free evening and weekend minutes for $29.00. Credo has one and also Virgin Mobile. With taxes etc. though, they usually end up costing around $39.00. And if you want to add minutes of course it costs more. But if she can use the unlimited evening and weekend minutes for her calls, that might work.

Also, with Virgin Mobile eg, you can keep about $50.00 in you account and if it looks like you're going over the minutes that month, you can change the plan in the middle of the month.

Credo is a progressive company also. Here's a link to their site http://www.credomobile.com/plan/default.aspx

Just checked Virgin Mobile. They have a plan for $29.99 with 300 free minutes and 1000 unlimited calling for evenings and weekends.

You can buy a cheap LG phone from both for about $29. I am using VM's completely unlimited plan for $49.00 and the cheap phone and f it's been great for about a year now. Don't need a land line anymore either so it saves money on that.

VM has no contract which is good so you can quit anytime.
