A nugget for mayday...
Edited on Sat May-01-10 11:24 AM by CaliforniaPeggy
I believe it comes from the French phrase: m'aidez which means help me.

:hi:

On edit:

I know, it's silly...

But this is something I've always wanted to say!

1. I think it comes from Lord Amplebottom leering...
.
...at the gorgeous buxom (and, unbeknownst to him,
quietly seething) young woman in the classic French
maid's outfit dusting Lord Chomondleychomondley's
sideboard) and skeptically asking, "Maid, eh?"
.
Little did he know that she was Priscilla Prudentia
Whitfield-Solidarity-Jones, who was speaking to the
striking workers about that particular recollection
of her long history of employer "mistreatments" YEARS
later at the exact moment when the police moved in and
instigated what later became known as "The Haymarket
Riots".
.
Although I think the term had split origins and
CaliforniaPeggy's account is ALSO true... save for the
fact that she forgot that the phrase was, "M'aidez,
Obi Wan Kenobi... m'aidez."
.
:hi:
.

3. Actually, his name is Ample-Bottom.
He is the result of a scandalous union between Baron Ample-Funding and stripper Lotta Bottom, as reported by Lotta's colleague and matron of honor, Virginia "Ding-Dong" Bell.

9. My dear Riftaxe!
Alas, my French is more than 40 years old, and so I cannot translate this excellent phrase...

"We the eaters of cheese who are..." What is the rest, s'il vous plait?

Merci mille fois!

And Welcome to DU!

10. who are monkies
a play on Bart Simpsons quote concerning the french, of "we are cheese eating surrender monkeys".

Of course it could say almost anything, i used a free text translator and they can come up with some goodies (i use it a lot to translate english to german, and it comes close...sometimes) :P
