Well, my Uncle is in Jail and his dog is very depressed.
I go over there three times a day to let him out and feed him,but he won't come back in very easily, I have to really coax him. He misses his human.

My Uncle got drunk and really screwed up (i'll spare you the details) and he is going to be locked up for a LONG time!

Anyone know what I can do for this dog? He is so bummed.

Yes, this is my RW Uncle. He has a big drinking problem. Looks like I quit just in the nick of time!

1. Although he misses his dad, he needs to be with others and not left alone.
Especially if this is going to be a long-term situation, as you indicate in your post. Solitude = death in a dog's mind, and he will either find a way to escape, or lose the will to live (eventually).

I'm not sure what your situation is, but if you cannot take him home, do this poor doggie a favor and find him a temporary foster situation. Make sure to bring a dirty article of clothing of your uncle's to help ease the transition, though. An old sock or tshirt works well.

3. I agree with you...
I'd just add, that until something long term can be worked out, maybe others can pitch in and spend time with the dog. I think at least one long walk a day will be good. Also maybe throw the ball or whatever activities the dog likes.

But the sooner something can be worked out the better.

Good luck to you and your uncle..

4. Why not?
I guess I can take him in for a few days at least. He has lived in this apartment before so he feels comfy up here. It will be a little tricky letting him out to the backyard but I can handle it, I need the exercise of going up and down the stairs.

My cats love dogs and Doc loves cats.

That's what I'll do, for now.

Thanks for the post.

2. He's not going to be alone the whole time your uncle is gone, is he?
If he is, then you need to get him a new home, or take him with you.

7. Irony dept.
It's one of the beautiful things about dogs - they miss us unconditionally. It'll be a lot easier if he's in somewhat familiar surroundings.
