3. If this was AI's Super Bowl and singing competition, Crystal clearly was the champ.
Since this is really a popularity contest disguised as a singing competition, then it will be Lee who is likely to win.

Adam was the better singer last year and lost, Crystal was the better singer tonight and I am betting she will lose also. But ultimately Crystal will have a great career like Adam.

Winning American Idol does not guarantee success or a successful musical career.

That's what I read anyway.

18. Adam Lambert's Album Goes Gold While American Idol Sees Adam Lambert "Effect" on Contestants:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2688845/adam_lambert_is_golden_and_has_effect.html

Adam Lambert is officially a golden child. His debut album, "For Your Entertainment", has now sold over 500,000 copies and that makes the album Gold. Adam Lambert's album debuted at number three on
the Billboard Top 100 Chart and has never fallen below the top fifty since it was introduced. Considering the decline of music sales that has been occurring in general, it is an amazing accomplishment for Adam Lambert, the new and young entertainer.

"For Your Entertainment" was originally released on November 23, 2009. Adam Lambert's debut album has only been available for purchase for eleven weeks. In all of the calendar yea 2009 only seven albums sold over a million copies, so it would seem that the Adam Lambert album is well on its way to official success status.

As another point of reference, Kris Allen, who actually won American Idol last season, has also recently released an album. Its sales remain far below the half million sold by Adam Lambert, Kris's album has sold just 255,000 copies at this time.]

On Amazon.com, "For Your Entertainment" is the 57th highest selling album. It is also the 18th highest selling album in the Rock category, and the 56th highest selling album in the Pop category on Amazon. Meanwhile the recently released single by Adam Lambert, "Whataya Want From Me" is doing really well on it's own and is currently placed at number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs.

2. Adam Lambert

The dashing and colorful American Idol runner-up headlines his first North American tour.

Setting the stage: Lambert's Glam Nation tour kicks off June 4 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., with more than 30 concerts to follow. Shows are currently scheduled through Sept. 18 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Why it's a tour de force: Lambert, a dazzling singer, set the Idol standard for showmanship, and his devoted fan base will turn out in full force. The tour's support acts — flame-haired fellow Idol finalist Allison Iraheta and Australian guitarist Orianthi — make the package especially promising: Orianthi played on Lambert's album, and Iraheta's Slow Ride duet with Lambert was a highlight of their Idol season and the subsequent tour. — Brian Mansfield

Just because you are #1 on American Idol does not mean you will have the best music career compared to others or that you will sell more records.

4. My tv isn't picking up Fox tonight and I couldn't get it online.
AARRRGGHH I'll have to find a way to watch it later.

I don't think it was a great season. Crystal was a standout, however, and Lee got better at the end. I hope Crystal wins- she's unique.

5. Crystal has been "the chosen one" for months,
by that I mean the producers were going to have her in the finale come hell or high water. The other spot was up for grabs, and I thought it would go to Siobhan until she was voted off. I actually like Lee, I've enjoyed some of his performances. But overall this season has been boring and I've missed a lot of episodes.

17. She started off fairly well, but she got overdramatic and artificial
in her performances as the show continued. I was tired of her by the time she was voted off.

Crystal is a natural.

7. This season has been awful
Crystal can sing and seems fun so I'll go with her. Lee is horrible. I don't know what the judges see in him.

I noticed that the show didn't even bother to create original songs for the winner's first single.

8. I agree
I will give Lee this - last week was his best week by far. And his "The Boxer" was improved tonight. But, Lee's other two songs weren't good, with Lee's "Beautiful Day" being downright terrible. The whole song was off-key. Crystal won all three rounds by far. The one criticism I have of Crystal is that she is a great singer like Melissa Etheridge, but sometimes keeps up the intensity where she can be more subtle. On "Up to the Mountain," Crystal didn't do that at all. May have been her best performance. And while the choices suited Crystal better, that doesn't change the outcome. I voted for Crystal, but AI is too much a popularity contest, so Lee may win.

10. I think Lee will win
The judges have built so much momentum for him with the excessive compliments. After his Hallelujah performance last week, the judges acted like it was the best performance by any singer ever. It wasn't even good...Tim Urban's version was even better. I don't think Lee would have even made it into the top 12 any other season.

Honestly, I don't think either will have long-term careers. Crystal is talented but she's not really "commercial." She may find a niche for herself but she won't be the next Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood.

Edited on Tue May-25-10 10:25 PM by mvd
But as long as she puts her mind to it, she'll have a good music career regardless - I think she'll have fans that support her. She can do well on commercial songs as her Alanis song back at the start of the season showed.

20. I think Crystal will have a good career.
I don't think it really matters to her if she is a commercial, mainstream artist. She will always have a fan base. And not being the next Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood ain't necessarily a bad thing. Those kinds of artists are a dime a dozen anymore.

Lee has proven week after week that he does not have the skills to carry himself as a performer. He has never really gotten over his nerves, and he needs to be propped up with Simon Cowell-arranged songs ("Hallelujah") and backups that rival the Boston Symphony and Mormon Tabernacle Choir. All smoke and no heat, but he fits the suit as to what can be molded as a "commercial success." Sad commentary on the state of pop music, IMHO.

25. "Sad commentary on the state of pop music"
I think pop music is very strong right now and has been for years.

Being the next Kelly Clarkson would be a good thing. Who wouldn't want to be a best-selling, Grammy award winning singer? Kelly is also a great singer...probably the best to win AI.

Kelly Clarkson is one of my favorite artists. One that's coming up that I love is Matisse.

Unfortunately, Dial Idol has Lee with a comfortable lead. They aren't usually wrong - even got Kris right by a thin margin. I think that sometimes the most loyal supporters aren't the ones who vote a lot, though. So Crystal could very well have a better career. If Lee wins, he would be the worst winner IMO.

I'm looking forward to this fall: Britney, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga...there's gonna be a lot of good, new pop music.

I haven't really been checking Dial Idol this season (I just haven't cared enough to) but I know in past seasons, it is usually correct. It would be between Taylor Hicks and Lee for the title of worst winner. Taylor at least had some personality.

21. You might be right about Lee winning . . . but for a different reason, IMO:
Remember the final last season, when the judges were telling Kris Allen reassuring things like "You've come a long way" and "You'll have a terrific career." Like they said to Lee last night. Suggesting "close, but no cigar."

Meanwhile, it was more or less a given that Adam was The Chosen One.

Well, look what happened.

was because most of the Danny Gokey fans shifted to Kris.

I liked Kris and Adam (preferred Adam a little more though). They both were good.

Lee is just B O R I N G.

Sometimes AI gets it right. Often its the second third or fourth place contestents that end up the most successful though.
I suspect Crystal will do better ultimately.

38. I'll go back through the seasons - haven't liked a lot of the winners
Season 1: Kelly Clarkson remains the best winner. Justin Guarini, the runner up, wasn't even close in talent.
Season 2: Not a fan of Ruben or Clay. Slight edge to Clay for having the better career.
Season 3: Fantasia's screechy style annoys me at times. Diana has a better voice but could never put it to good albums. Jennifer Hudson should have won.
Season 4: Carrie was competent though robotic on the show, so I was a Bo supporter. Since then, though, Carrie's voice has gotten better and I've liked her music more.
Season 5: Taylor is entertaining even if he has limited skills. Katharine has a nice voice though limited in styles she can do well. Her first album of trendy R&B-style pop didn't fit well. Katharine had my support that year.
Season 6: Blake is more interesting than Jordin, which is why I supported him. Neither one is anything exceptional.
Season 7: Archuleta, as proven by "Imagine," has the most potential to stand out. Cook tends to take the generic rock route.
Season 8: Adam is by far the most unique and talented; singers like Kris Allen are a dime a dozen in music.
Season 9: Crystal, though not the very best the show has offered, was heads and shoulders the better choice. Lee isn't even as in tune as Cook or as charming at times as Kris. I feel that Lee is the worst winner ever, though he's a nice guy and did improve a bit at the end until his last two performances on the final show.

As you can see, I only agree with the winner 2 out of 9 times. I think next year they should limit the voting per household. A female can still win, but I think she has to have the wholesome, role-model, pop appeal of Carrie. It has become about popularity.
