2. please explain more
You mean you worked a week and are not getting your salary?
.. or is this performance pay? Labour law says they have to pay
you if you worked.

3. Exactly
You must be paid for work you perform (unless, as noted, it's performance pay, and even then you must collect at least minimum wage, even if your performance is zero.)

5. I worked through my spring break to make some cash
I work at a state college in the IT dept where I'm also a fulltime student. Thanks to some ass, the student employees' hours weren't picked up this week, so all of our checks are going to be a week late. The upper management considers us a dime-a-dozen, and assume that people are lining up to work here like the Gov't projects during the great depression, and apparently is not at all interested in making amends besides "ooops"

Of course, next week is also next month when my rent is due, etc.

14. money hit up the boss for your rent
and if he stonewalls you, play hardball, and walk to the administration building keeping in mind that all of labour law
is behind YOU, and not the employer. Just keep raising the ante
until you get paid.

- sorry wrong advise on post below - presuming too much that you
were working in a regular full-time job with a company in cash flow
diffiuclties.

4. Request (demand) a cash advance until they can fix the problem.
Has happened to me in the past, and that was the solution that worked for both of us.

more than once, as a matter of fact.

7. That is not acceptable
as a previous post said, labor laws say if you work you are required to get paid. Go see a lawyer. Contact the labor board. :)

8. Do you mean it will be delayed? Or you are not getting paid for a
weeks work you already performed.

There is a BIG difference.

13. That's a bitch.
But I'm glad you are still getting paid for the week you already worked.

I wouldn't sabotage anything though. That would be a bad move, and cause for termination. Don't fuck up and get yourself fired for THEIR fuckup.

11. Write up you resume this weekend
Its always easier to get a new job with the leverage of "already"
having one. Don't hesitate. No matter what management says,
if there is no cash to pay you, it is a sign that layoffs or
a bankruptcy lie in wait... and why get screwed. I've lost months
of pay in similar circumstances, by being loyal and hoping
that the company pulls through. I was not worth it living
in my car after i got made homeless by that insovlency. Even if
you eventually get paid in an insolvency, your cash flow will
eat shit. Smile, act loyal, and jobhunt your ass off.

25. First thing Monday morning
Tell your boss you need an advance to pay your bills.
If he doesn't do it, get ahold of HIS boss.
Be polite, but firm.
Explain that it cost's YOU more money if your late.
If they don't do that, ask for a letter explaining the foul-up so you can give it to all your creditors.
Then tell them that they are responsible for all late charges.
If no luck, go to the president of the university.
I feel for ya, I once worked at a place that bounced our payroll checks.
We had to follow the boss to the bank.
I got a new job pretty quick after the 2nd time it happened.
Hang in there, and remember, FIRM but polite.

28. So you're saying I should write a curt letter, perhaps
to my school newspaper.

Dear Sir,

As you may be aware, some of us that walk around campus wearing badges actually work here. This isn't a mistake, nor is it the new RA system that you missed the meetings for. We are real people, Mr. Vice President, we are real people and we starve just like mannequins. We are hungry because our organisation felt that we should not be compensated fairly and timely for our toil. If you don't pay me today, I shall gut your pets and line your bathtub with their pelts. After lining your bathtub with the pelts of your pets, I shall take your largest pet's stomach and make it a form of bagpipe that hasn't been seen in a few millenia. Extruding from this windy bag of pet shall be enough correctly sized pet intestine to make a crude bagpipe tuned to A-minor (A-minor being the note which allows us to rock out to some 'Halen).

Furthermore, should any children be home when we decide to commence Operation Connery, they shall be subject to repeated viewings of repeated viewings of the scene in "A Clockwork Orange", eye drops will be deducted from your bank account.

If you do not comply with our demands of payment plus a meager $14,500 dollars per second interest (flat rate, we're understanding like that), you can be sure that the next time you hear pipes blowing, and you aren't farting, you can be sure we're on our way.

Do you like your pets Mr. Vice-President?

Or, get a Strong rare earth magnet and wave it around the back pants pocket were the boss keeps his wallet and erase the strips on his credit cards so they don't work.
