I am OK!

Oh what a relief!

The radiologist said that sometimes the little squiggles and dots in a mammogram get superimposed on top of one another, making it look as though there's something happening, when they're really not in proximity to one another...

And that was what happened with my original scan, a week ago...

They took two more views this morning, and then the images were blown up, twisted around and flattened, and they showed that I'm really fine, without any breast cancer at all!

I had a similar scare a few years ago. They left me a message on the answering machine on a Friday afternoon that I have to come back because they found something. By the time I got home from work, I wasn't able to reach anyone to tell me what is going on. WORST weekend EVER. I had an ultrasound the week after and they couldn't confirm whatever they saw on the mammogram. I had another mammogram 6 month later and whatever was there stayed the same size. Then I got pregnant and couldn't go back until just recently. Whatever is there is still the same size and the doctor said not to worry about it. Now I have to go back yearly for mammograms.

My sister-in-law (she is 38) just had a double mastectomy last year and 8 rounds of chemo (the last one in March). She has a family history of cancer and didn't want to take any risks.

My god, you really went through a worse time than I did...How awful for you. NO message should be left on a Friday afternoon unless there's some way to reach someone about it!

my boss suddenly found out at Christmas that she had breast cancer. They caught it very early on. So far so good.

Alas, though, I won't be able to start the MFA in the fall. Since my bachelor's degree wasn't in English, I have some classes to take to prepare...

Just keep doing those breast self exams every month or so.

That's how Mrs GoS found her lump/tumor/cancer/ticket to Cancerland. The mammogram in November didn't find the lump she found in March. Of course, she has "dense breast tissue" so that may have made a difference.

We're now in the first week of chemo after the lumpectomy/re-excision (to clear the margins). All seems good within the scope of what one counts as good behind a cancer diagnosis.

I had a similar experience several years ago of the same type...only much shorter in duration. Waited only an hour to find out that the second test proved that the first test was wrong.
But I wouldn't ever want to relive that hour again. I was an absolute basket case. I am so sorry you had to wait for a week. And, of course, I'm thrilled that all is well.
You may need to tether yourself to the ground for the next few days. Then again, why bother? Go ahead and float!

Incidentally I sent you a PM several months ago about a Moh's procedure I was going to have to remove a skin cancer from my right sideburn area, and I have neglected to follow up. Sorry about that. The procedure went well.

I have now had a number of skin cancers removed over the years, so I have to have my skin checked regularly. Right now I have something on my left cheek which might or might not be a cancer.

I didn't have time to post initially but thought of you all the same.
Now I will take a big sigh of relief!!!
