....Gish is great, but actually one of my lesser favorites as Pumpkins albums go. To me, it showed a preview of the greatness that was to come, but everything was still coming together. And by Siamese Dream, everything had officially clicked and they just took off like a rocket.
Don't get me wrong: I love, love, love "Rhinocerous", "Crush," and "Daydream." But dare I say I find some of the other songs I find to be somewhat, well, filler. Ironically, two songs--"Obscured" and "Blue"--were left off Gish and later released on Pisces Iscariot. Had they included those songs, I think Gish would be a lot higher up in my opinion because both of those songs are incredible. Pisces Iscariot itself is incredible--it's a disservice to call it a B-side album.
Whatever happened to the Smashing Pumpkins? They're still there--well, Billy's still there. James, Jimmy and D'Arcy aren't, and Billy has something of a revolving door for bassists and drummers since their departure. They are in the process of a slow release of a 44 song "album" called Teargarden by Kaleiydescope, and I'm sad to say from the 4 songs that have been released so far it's probably the weakest effort to date. But they still have 40 songs to get their act together and I'm hoping they will and my faith in St. Billy shall not be shaken.
