I made the error of venturing into GD today. Can I come home
and stay here?
One thing for sure, I won't do that again.
Bruises are healing. Cuts have scabbed over.
So glad DU is a friendly forum.

3. I find that if you bathe yourself liberally in super glue or two-part epoxy...
or even an average-grade roof patching compound, that your skin will finally be thick enough to be able to handle the ensuing carnage.

It's a place where there are a lot of posters. And so many of them simply have to win the argument. Period. Remember, they are superior to you and I in so many ways. They literally have to win that argument.

Also, they are much more educated than you or I. According to them. So they must win that argument or at least point out your many shortcomings, while in the process of losing that argument.

That's just the way it works.

5. You know what annoys me most about GD?
Edited on Sat Jun-12-10 12:45 AM by Capn Sunshine
Everyone is just SO convinced how influential DU is.

As a member of Democratic Party hierarchy, I can tell you they are not. Any time I'm at a meeting or convention just in the halls of Sacramento or DC, I always ask, "have you heard of Democratic Underground?"

About one in ten has. Which is an improvement; it used to be one in a hundred.

That said, everyone who posts in GD these days is just totally convinced about how correct THEY are, and how wrong YOU are. It's a madhouse I tell you, A MADHOUSE!!!!! ( and a complete waste of time)

7. Daily Kos is more popular where I am
Of course, Michigan Liberal and Blogging for Michigan are even more popular.

11. That's because they have united in fundraising efforts for one thing
Kos gets everyone's attention because money talks in politics. And it's front and center there.

6. Buck up Pilgram...
It's only words and everybody, including me, has far too at hand...

Seriously, we do go a little overboard over there.

That's why the Lounge was a great invention, we can let off steam without being overtly political.

Me, well I enjoy the frackas.

9. Yeah, General Dynamics is chock full of nerds.
They just sit around bitching about combination and permutations of self invented equations.
I have more fun with accountants.

12. Do you ever wonder
what would have happened, had someone like Neil Young or Mick Jagger been on American Idol? Obviously they would have been eliminated very early in the competition. Always loved Neil.

17. The little TV that I watch seems to be half-devoted...
.
...to the Prevue Channel as background noise... and much of the
time, SOMETHING to do with American Idol is on. For me, it seems
to epitomize the cardboard cutout pop music culture -- with the
emphasis more on finding someone more like a spokesmodel than a
true artist.
.
I had a roommate like that once -- UNBELIEVEABLE voice and
delivery -- who told me he felt basically nothing from or about
the songs he was singing. He was so good and seemed so intense
that I had trouble believing that, but it was so.
.
Some of the best, most inspired AND inspirational artists we have
had in music have had FAR less than stellar voices -- Neil, Willie,
Johnny Cash, Randy Newman and Lou Reed... even Joni Mitchell's
voice breaks and loses control in amazing ways.
.
I posted a Sam the Sham & The Pharoahs live TV performance from
around 1966 the other day, and his voice broke hilariously TWICE
during "Wooly Bully". It made me long for the day of true and
courageous live performances without augmentation of ANY kind in
our media.
.
I used to sing in front of a band, and crowds of strangers seemed
to love what I did -- though from what I heard inside, I never
quite understood that. I absolutely never got over my pre-show
stagefright -- literally hoping before every show that the power
would go out and I wouldn't face a complete meltdown of some
sort onstage. Thirty seconds into the first song, I wanted to go
ALL night long.
.
This gave me an even greater appreciation for what others face in
performing when it is a passion. With shows like American Idol, I
think the industry is just digging our cultural hole deeper and
deeper every day.

Very dysfunctional, they all consider my opinions are wrong, and I feel out of synch with the majority of them. Yep. It's just like going home.
