Somewhere Sarah Palin is phone-whipping an assistant for not thinking of that obvious cash-generating promotion idea

7. New music doesn't blow, the music industry blows.
Edited on Sat Jun-12-10 05:27 AM by HughBeaumont
Most of the artists pictured here still endure because they came from an era where record companies nurtured their development as artists and didn't care about quick-fix hit singles so much as building strong albums worth of music.

Once the music industry became ClearChannel-ized, development of cutting edge artists went the way of the dodo and it was all about here-today-gone-tonight rap and dance-fluffy pop shit. Even most modern rock artists that make it through the machine suffer from Pro-Tools, Auto-Tuned bland similarity, taking away any kind of originality and bite.

There's always been a lot of great music out there and still is. The problem is, they're all found on garage labels and the music industry's distribution and A&D models moved into the 21st century with all the grace of the Keystone Kops. Listeners have to really, REALLY dig for good music, and unfortunately, because of no widespread distribution, are likely going to see their favorite bands play clubs and the occasional Pitchfork or Coachella for the rest of their careers.

11. Yup. Good music has to find an audience, and it always will.
Corporate crap, meanwhile, spews from our radios and televisions.

A small rant: I read a thread a few days ago where someone was posting that American beer sucks. Not true; corporate beer sucks. The mass-produced stuff; microbrewed American beer is stunningly good. Same thing with music: new music doesn't necessarily suck. Corporate music sucks. Think about most anything in your life you think is incredibly lame; almost certainly, the thing you hate is being force-fed to you by a corporation.

I love Muse. They're a legitimately 21st century band. There are others out there, too. Every year sees someone new and exciting in music. It's just damn hard to find amidst the dross. It's the corporate crap that sucks. Music, movies, beer, even art: the corporate crap is precisely the worst stuff out there.

12. I heard a radio ad yesterday for an upcoming appearance in my Cow town
for the triumphant return of

Bad Company!

Same location I saw them play 35 years ago. I found their stuff to be dumb but my friend had a teen crush on the lead singer and his carpeted chest.

Help!!!

18. I swear there are not many bands that aren't still around or back again
My boyfriend gets a British rock magazine, which has pages of listings for concerts. There are shitloads of concerts in the UK, including lots of festivals. Every time I look at the magazine, I find myself saying "They're still around?" numerous times. It's unbelievably how many of these bands are still around (or have reunited).

20. Pretty much. Hell, the RIAA still wishes we were stuck there.
That Bon Jovi concert is likely to be Cougar Central, with their over-tanned, wifebeater-wearing boyfriends/huzbins, lighters in tow when he plays "Wanted Dead or Alive".
