1. Thanks, Mark...
.
.
.
...I usually HATE "supergroups", but that version of
"Dead Flowers" was GREAT!!! If two musicians SHOULD
be playing together, it's Willie and Keith.
.
And "Monkey Man" was a great study of Keith. When I
lived in PA, there was this older R&B combo with a
70-year-old saxophonist/vocalist (who used to nimbly
jump up on the bar and freakin' DUCKWALK while he
played!!!!).
.
Both he and Keith were so funky and AWKWARD in their
styles that they both reminded me of an unbelieveably
talented 5-year-old boy on a local TV station's early
morning talent show.
.
There is absolutely NOTHING smooth and polished about
Keith's guitar playing... except, of course... the
sounds that he makes.

4. Sometimes Keef looks like he can hardly walk, then he plays some of the best shit
I have ever heard...Check the Stones "FlashPoint" CD- live recordings of a lot of older songs, including
"Ruby Tuesday" in which Keef plays a stunning flamenco guitar part-on a nylon string flamenco guitar!

Check this little clip of Keith talking about the guitar itself and giving a Robert Johnson demo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Rrs1xK_lPI&NR=1

I hope he lives for another 50 years at least.
I have been in awe of him since 1964.

5. I remember hearing him on a Robert Johnson documentary...
.
.
.
.
...at least, I THINK it was him talking about, given a little time,
being able to copy ANYONE'S licks, but there was some Robert Johnson
stuff he couldn't touch. He finally saw a picture where he realized
that "Robert Johnson had hands the size of dinner plates" and he
KNEW there was some stuff he wouldn't be able to pick up.
.

6. didn't know this-the "other guitar" in the Expensive Winos - Keith's band-
is the legendary Waddy Watchel, about whom more here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waddy_Wachtel

He has been on tons of records since about 1970 or so...everyone has heard his work, few have ever heard of him a GREAT American guitarist.

8. I couldn't believe it when I saw him...
.
...but Waddy Wachtel is INSTANTLY recognizable.
.
And you're right... he's been a sideman to virtually EVERYONE.
.
.
.
.
.
I got distracted, but when I saw him, I meant to post to ask if
he's ever had his OWN band, or had been satisfied with the gigs
playing for others -- he certainly has not ever been unemployed
that I know of, that's for sure.
