Forty years ago today.

We Brazilians have a term for real people that achieve mythical status through their feats: Sacred Monsters.

In June 21, 1970, the fellows below became Sacred Monsters. (You might recognize the fourth crouching yellow-clad gentleman from the left.)

It was in fact a 40 year long sport competition: before the first World Cup in 1930, it was determined that whoever won the World Cup three times would be the Ulimate Winner of the Jules Rimet Cup. After that, a different trophy would be awarded.

Brazil was the Ultimate Winner. From 1974 FIFA decided not to establish a century-spanning tournament like that again. So it was not only an once-in-a-lifetime achievement, it was an once-in-all-lifetimes one.
