9. based on this recent comment about Lady Gaga's
"Alejandro" video, I'm not sure I'd say she's changed. She's just decided that pop is more marketable.

And "I kissed a girl" is pretty safe, silly pop that doesn't really offend much of anyone or actually have a particularly GLBT-friendly message, IMO.

In case you missed her comment about Lady Gaga's video, here it is:

"Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke," Perry tweeted Tuesday.

4. LOL, it seems like the preachers' kids always turn out naughty.
the daughter of the former pastor of my mom's Lutheran church (who happened to be born without a lower left arm, interestingly enough) seemed all goody-goody when she was in high school, but has turned quite bad since then, drinking, partying, and being promiscuous.

10. The song is written to entertain frat boys and sell records.
Coming from a fundie it's just shallow and fake, self-serving to sell records.

12. I guess I didn't really take the song that way....
I think there are a lot of high school girls exploring their sexuality and to me it was to them as much as the guys.

13. just a fucking song--do you have to beleive everthing you sing about....
did the lead singer for hermans hermits really shack up with a woman who was married 7 times before when he sang Im Henry the 8th i am????

did the group that wrote Love Potion number nine really need a love potion???? were there not any groupies??????

my god these are really old examples....
sorry if some of the younger du'ers (under 50??) need a translation.

But the point is that a song is just a bunch of words set to music. You don't put you hand on a bible or other holy book of choice before you belt out to oldies while taking a shower.........

it is just a fucking song that she hoped would make her a bunch of money and make her famous.
and she was right.....

18. Well, as far as "Love Potion No 9" goes
...One of the groups that recorded that song back in the day was Ronnie Dio and the Prophets.

Let's hear it for the creativity that grows out of childhood oppression!

16. She should have stuck with gospel.
Then I'd have to change the station far less when her annoying, shrill voice comes on. What annoys me even more is that there are actually people who believe she has a positive message. She's just the worst kind of pop out there.

17. It might have helped if instead, her parents were songwriters....
Edited on Mon Jun-28-10 12:51 PM by Tommy_Carcetti
...because her lyrics (if she even bothered to write them, which I'm doubting) are, how shall you say, trite shit.

Having clergy for parents isn't necessarily uncommon for those in the music industry. Tori Amos' father was a pastor. Of course, Tori Amos actually has what they call talent to sing and write meaningful lyrics other than "California girls, we're unforgettable/Daisy Dukes, bikinis on top/Sun-kissed skin, so hot/
We'll melt your Popsicle/Oh, oh, ohhh" or "Ur (sic) so gay and you don't even like boys."
