My Mom's story about Robert Byrd and family.....
Mom and her family grew up in Marion, South Carolina. Her father died when she was 7 years old.(1936) Her brother was much older than my Mom at the time and was at West Point. He asked the Byrd family (the father of Sen. Byrd) if they could send a puppy of one of their prized Gordon Setters to my Mom to comfort her. They did and the puppy came and it was a fully grown dog. My Mom named it Satan and was a lifelong companion for my Mom. My Mom's Brother, WB McCall, was killed early in WWII as a hero, and that dog really helped her get past yet another tragedy at a young age.

She just told me this story when I told her Sen. Robt Byrd died.

3. Thank you for sharing that!!
Stories like this make events so much more immediate and human. I'm so glad your mom had her Satan pup when tragedy hit her family. Again, thanks.
