I think it's time for another MLB thread.
I'm feeling a bit depressed about my Phillies this year. Jimmy Rollins was on the DL, then off the DL, then back on the DL.....which seemed to precipitate one helluva batting slump. Jimmy's back again, batting is improving, but now Chase Utley and Placido Polanco are both on the DL. Our bullpen sucketh. I know we're only about halfway through the season, but still.

Pretty sad that the only good news I've gotten in Philadelphia sports, is that dog-killer Vick's time with the Eagles is most likely coming to an end. Thank goodness.

How is your MLB team doing this year?

1. My team? Oh boyo!
1 game behind the 1st place Yankees. Third best w/l percentage in all of MLB at .603. Unfortunately we've had a lot of injuries (as have many teams this year), but a lot of players are really stepping up. And Big Papi seems to be back!

I'm not thrilled with our pitching this year. It should be our strongest aspect, and it just isn't.

7. I've been keeping an eye on your Sox.
It seems that they're doing what you said they'd be doing - the march to the World Series. Or, at the very least, the playoffs.

And, Papi's face freaks me the hell out. If I was batting against him, I'd surely go down swinging.

12. You should like this, then, flvegan. The Mariners are close
to beating the Yankees for the second game in a row (:wow: ).

Mariners haven't been doing too well this year at all, unfortunately, but dayam, I love it when they beat the Yanks!

2. Cincy, doing surprisingly well as you know if you watched their last series

Tied for first in the NL Central with the Cards. That surprises me anyway. The way they started off the season I thought it was going to be another mediocre year of missing the playoffs. I've seen it all too often over the past 20 years. But they got a little fight in them this year. Good hitting, decent starting pitching. The main area they need work in, I think, is relief pitching. If they are going to make a change I think it should be there. But I think I might actually have something to root for this fall.

11. Yes - finally
I have never been really interested in MLB but I have been keeping track of the Reds this year.

3. The Cubs are doing great--they almost scored against the mighty Pirates today.
AND... are within 10 games of .500

4. The White Sox recently enjoyed an 11-game winning streak, but
this was against some of the weakest teams in the national league. In the two games since they returned to the AL they've split, and that's against Kansas City - not a particularly scary club but not lousy either. We've got what appears to be a really strong pitching staff, not like San Francisco but quite good, and of late the starters have mostly done well. If the pitching holds up, this could be a good year. If the pitching doesn't hold up, the offense isn't sufficient to carry us anywhere.

Philadelphia has still one of the best clubs in the NL; I like your chances.

5. It depends which team...I follow three.
Rays? Still very good, but slipping a bit as of late.

Marlins? Meh. Remains to be seen whether the team will perform under a new manager.

Orioles?

Um...yeah....next question....oh wait, they did sweep the Nats....

I'd call that a massive step forward compared to last year.

20. Me too.
Although all the damn errors they made last week were unfortunately reminescent of last year. But at least the players seem to give a damn this year...Which wasn't so much the case before hand...

9. Stasburg? Natinals?
What is it about Nats fans, that they feel inclined to remove letters from names? Hmmmmm? :hide:  :hi:

10. Cards...
No longer in 1st after today. You can't strand 14 and win.
They'll be fine though...it's a looooooong season.

13. Pfft. You think YOUR team has injury/bullpen issues?
The Rockies could beat that standing on their collective heads. :P

Still, only 5 games out of first on the last day of June... I'll take that. We jsut need our bullpen and 3 our of our 5 starting pitchers to get better. x(

16. Surprisingly well.
While my dream Series of Texas versus Houston is unlikely, Texas is having a good year so far. This is probably their best team since the days of the Three Amigos (Rafael Palmero, Julio Franco, Ruben Sierra, along with at various times Nolan Ryan, Kevin Brown, and Pudge Rodriguez). It's almost enough to drag me back into the sport.

18. I have no doubt they will blow it after the all star game
They just don't have the pitching to sustain them late into the season. I wish it weren't so, but I'm just not too optimistic. They do have a great team as far as offense goes and I'm enjoying it while it lasts. Vlad really kicked ass against the Angels tonight.

19. That's what usually happens. All we need now is to trade away what little pitching and defense
we have for an injured once-great DH we can keep for half a season, and all will be back to normal.
