What would you do in this situation?
Last night as I was leaving a grocery store (medium sized city, college town if it matters) I was following what appeared to be a grandfather and his grandson.
The GF was walking several steps ahead of the boy and paying absolutely no attention to him. The boy appeared to be @ 5.
The situation really miffed me. For one thing the boy could have been hit by a car. But beyond that the boy could have been snatched easily.
By the time GF got to his car the boy had to run to catch up. There was probably a half block of distance between them.

Should I have said something? Or is my mind working overtime?

3. My dear rurallib...
I think that little boy was very lucky you were there watching and making sure nothing bad happened...

I'm not sure what I would have done, if anything.

I don't think your mind is working overtime, either...

What a sad situation.

older people are less overprotective than younger ones. i don't think you should have said something.

there's very little possibility that he would have been abducted, but in a quietish area if i was with a little kid i'd probably let go of his hand.

although, i've seen someone pushing a kid in a buggy across the road at a busy crossroads when the red man was on, and i thought that was irresponsible as hell so i know the feeling.

6. I walked behind two adults and a little girl on a really busy street a while back.
The 3 or 4 year old was running back and forth between the adults on the sidewalk. I wanted to say something too. I don't know why I didn't. Really freaked me out.
