My wife's family are members of the Mishewal Wappo tribe of Alexander Valley. The parade was held in Calistoga.

2. Thanks! Yeah, it was 100°.
They all got to ride on the trailer while I had to run up and down the street to take pictures. :)

Gorgeous running up through Napa, Yountville, St Helena, and ending up in Calistoga. The 101 Redwood Hwy route going north out of Santa Rosa is pretty awesome too. The traditional tribal land is on the Russian River near Healdsburg. Nice canoe trip there.

7. I'm not surprised!
I enjoyed your post on the fourth with photos, but I was on our old computer with bad monitor color.
Now I switched to my son's computer and can see so much better the women and girl's colorful dresses, interesting headgear, and the elder's place of honor.
It's good to see that the younger generation is proud of, and interested in, their heritage.

10. Thanks mazipani! It was a very colorful float.
It's been hard to bring the history and traditions back. The tribe was down to just a handful at the turn of the century and they have no written language. Great strides have been made though and it is because the younger generation has become more involved.

Glad you enjoyed the photos. :hi:
