Great someone caught a strain of avian bird flu in BC
Edited on Sat Mar-27-04 08:02 PM by HEyHEY
This sucks, because they are burning the dead chickens near the town I live in. On Friday I went up to the place where the bruning pit is, I stood like RIGHT next to it to take pics. I had to were a biosafe or whatever suit and all...but still.

If I get avian bird flu, I'm gonna be really pissed.

1. Not to worry
what happened was a Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) worker who was handling dead chickens managed to get conjunctivitis (pinkeye). He probably rubbed his hand on his face with contaminated (unwashed or with gloves on) hands.

Avian influenza is endemic. We are hearing about it this time because of the virulent outbreak in China which can be transmitted to humans, probably after mutating through an intermediate host, typically swine.
