think about it. Would you hire someone who put down BJU on their resume? I can't see that impressing too many people. I don't see the advantages.

2. "Do Not Hire List"
The company I work for has a list of diploma mills and other phoney universities. If a resume lists such a school it is thrown away.

Bob Jones University is number two on the list.

Apprently it is fucking expensive, why anyone would waste their money on it is totally lost on me, esspecially when there are some fundie schools out there that are fairly credible, Wheaton for example.

3. Thought I read...
that they do have a certain placement success with right-wing and religious companies and such.

Sort of like the way Howard Hughes used to hire Mormons for his personal staff.

4. Yes. Out of pity.
Having visited BJU, I would be most inclined to hire one of their graduates. Its a prison camp. There are huge walls, topped with barbed wire, that surround the place. Students are not allowed out, in many cases. The only heterosexual contact allowed is "courting" which involves a faculty minder and no holding of hands. Anybody who has survived four years of the Reverend Bob Jones III's little helhole and hasn't been driven utterly insane has my profound respect.

5. They go there to be around like-minded
er,"people". People watch Faux News for the same reason-the "truth" is simply opinions filtered through their belief system. I'm sure blocking out reality means a safe and happy 4 years for them.

6. I have to weigh in on this
because I know someone who went there and graduated. She is a very smart, savvy, fun, and caring person, and dare I add an irrelevancy, also stunningly beautiful. Of all the people I've known in my life, she
is near the top of the list of those who have their act together. She's also as lefty as I am, or even more. After graduating from BJU, she
survived an ill-fated marriage, and the divorce started to open her eyes
to the world she'd been sheltered from. She has gone on to earn two
master's degrees from a far more reputable non-religious university, and
is now teaching courses at a community college. She is without question
one of the most memorable and respectable people I've ever met.
So... don't write them all off. People change, and they have inner
resources you can't even guess at unless you know them.

7. People who have grown up in the hermetically sealed world
of the large fundamentalist churches may actually be afraid to go anywhere else, since a secular or less strict religious college would involve too many "worldly temptations."

It attracts young people who have been incredibly guilt-tripped all their lives and are so full of inner turmoil and repression that they feel they need heavy external controls to keep from going totally wild.
