The director's cut of Wrath of Khan is on AMC right now...

1. "StarTrek II"
My God, this movie had everything...action, interesting subplots (the one with Admiral Kirk and his relationship with Carol Marcus...and their son, David)...

Ricardo Montalban in a WONDERFUL performance as Khan (chewing huge amounts of the scenery. :-))

Great action...and it's quite emotional (when Spock tells Kirk, before he dies, "I will always be your friend". Wow)

The BEST of the series. Period.

Terry

6. Montalban should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor
Of course, the "Academy" would never recognize such a performance, but it was brilliant and mesmerizing.

8. ST2 is the gold standard
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 01:06 AM by Enraged_Ape
Everything in this movie is what Star Trek is and should be all about. Great characters, great dialog, great action. I really wish the current asswipes in charge of the franchise would watch this movie again and get even one tiny freaking clue.

4. Khan and Undiscovered are the best...
The TNG movies had some great ideas, but they were so poorly executed that they're scarcely watchable. Only "Insurrection" comes through with a smooth production, and yet "Undiscovered County" has far more insurrection in it!!

5. Technically...
...Search for Spock has the most insurrection.

7. Even numbered ST movies are good...
Odd numbered ones are below average. Don't ask me how this is.

Another fascinating odd thing about these movies...notice the lack of a bell curve. The movies gradually decline as the years go on and this poll seems to perfectly show that!

9. Even numbered are good? Explain VI...
I thought VI was one of the worst ones. I admit I loved I and IV...

10. It depends...
Everyone has their personal preference. Actually a lot of diehard ST fans insist the movies are cursed so that even numbered ones are always better. Myself...I have my doubts. I just thought it was worth mentioning.

You have to admit that Star Treks 1, 3, and 5 weren't that great.

18. I thought VI was pretty good
the only even one that has not lived up was the most recent one, Nemesis (aka Wrath of Khan redux). II is the best but for me double dumbass on you (IV) almost beats Khan....
Khan................. Khan.............. Khan...........

11. It certainly isn't First Contact, and Nemesis was a total piece of shit
even more so than First Contact.

Rabrrrrrr, repeating himself again, but I love calling Nemesis a piece of shit. It takes some of the pain away of watching that vile crapload of cliches and shitty script writing and shitty little story rancip pukefest.

13. Don't get me started on First Contact...
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 02:09 AM by JonathanChance
Retconing the entire fucking Trek universe so that Cochrane was From Earth and that the Vulcans were the first race Humans had contact with. (Prior to First Contact, it was accepted that Cochrane was from Alpha Centauri, and invented the warp drive shortly after a sublight sleeper ship from Earth made First contact with them. Also, it was accepted that Earth did not make contact with the Vulcans until decades after first contact with the Centauri.)

14. I most offended by the truly shitty writing in First Contact
all originality out the window (thanks Berman, you rancid no-talent fuck). There is no difference between First Contact and any hundreds of other stupid quip laden "adventure" movies where the tough guy heroes always have something stupid to say that's supposed to be funny "Assimilat this!", what a stupid ass line, not to mention the 1800 other ones that comprise the entirety of the script.

That said, though, Nemesis was even MORE of a piece of shit.

Nemesis is the only movie I've ever watched that made me angry. And I'm still angry. First Contact was shit, but it was still, in some minor redeemable way, Star Trek.

But Nemesis was straight out unadulterated worst movie writing in 50 years.

15. If I were put in charge of Trek....
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 02:28 AM by JonathanChance
I'd probably just get rid of Enterprise, and all the TNG films, (Except Generations) dismiss them as no longer official canon of the Trek universe,(just like the Animated series and the books) retcon back to the original history of the universe.

http://www.starfleet-museum.org/ (although this site accepts the retconning of Cochrane being from Earth.)

Maybe start a series at the very beginning of Starfleet (no transporters or shipboard subspace transmitters) or during the Romulan Wars.

16. All of the Next Generation movies have been sub-par
I feel like the quality of Star Trek has gone down in recent years and the Next Generations crew never really got the same quality material as the original.

17. After Roddenberry died, it went to hell
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 02:34 AM by Rabrrrrrr
The powers that be should have been intelligent enough to realize that Berman was an ignorant, destructive fuck, and fired him by season 6 of TNG.

Though I have to say that, in terms of the TV show, I think TNG stayed pretty damn good throughout, at least in terms of writing, though it strayed a bit in terms of being Star Trekky (especially once DS9 came in and they began franchising and starting the whole "I'm Rick Berman and I'm a clueless fuck and the only thing I really know to do is to have stories involving constant war because I'm too ignorant to offer any real compelling stories so everyone's gonna be at war with everyone else in all series in perpetuity").

Asshole.

If I were Klingon, and sometimes I wish I were, I would have had him EXECUTED by season 5.

No, scratch that, I'd be Klingon, so *I* would have executed him. And received a commendation of the highest order for it.

19. This Rick Berman sounds like an idiot...
I remember the classic Trek did have something "magical" about it. It was more than just an action/sci-fi series. The story lines were humanity-affirming in a sense.

Today, I think you're right in saying that Star Trek is just about battles and stuff.

You know you put the wrong guy in charge and everything can get rammed into the ground pretty quick. :(
