The History Channel has a great show on Afraid of the Dark.
On my Grandparents farm it was so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your eyes.

I always enjoyed the full moon every month.

The whole country side would light up.

1. I never understood why people are afraid of the dark
I love going out in the middle of the night. One of my favorite times is when the mares are due to foal and I go out at night to check on them. Walking out in the starlight or moonlight is just magical, especially since I have very good night vision and don't need a flashlight unless the sky is cloudy.

If it is warm enough, I can hear the bats flying by, catching insects. Listening to the barred owls having their conversations is really neat, too. I've also gotten to see the space station going by, see comets and meteorites, and watch the planets and constellations progress.

The night is magical, not something to be feared.

2. I miss the night sky living in the city.
The night sounds were nice also.

I was never afraid of the dark, sometimes I would sleep in the hay barn.

It was full of hay, maybe 20 feet up or more, with two windows to open.

When it was really hot there was a nice breeze up there.

The barn cats would come out and sleep nearby, nice memory.

6. I mis the night sky we had thirty years ago
It has been affected by town moving closer to us. I will never understand people moving out to the country that turn it into a town - even the people who bough small acreage want street lights and security lights on all night.

I could never sleep on the hay - one of the bugs that live in the bales causes me horrid rashes. The idea is cool, though.

7. I really did like the hay barn, it has since fallen down.
It was old when I was little built back in 1925 or so.

5. I like the dark as long as I'm in a familiar, safe place...
Any moonlight is wonderful!
