1. My dear Tuesday Afternoon!
Uh.......cute?

Well, maybe...

You have considerable presence of mind, taking his picture so calmly...

What kind of snake is he?

:scared:

5. That is ... most definitely ... a copperhead
and a fairly big one at that.

22. Last time I chopped up one of those
I was living in greater Houston. In a subdivision build on an abandoned rice field.

The copperhead had five mice in its belly.

3. I think most snakes are pretty
but I don't like unexpectedly encountering venomous ones.

BTW,I wish that this were your own photo because I'd like to know what that surface is under the snake.

6. That surface looks like a type of asphalt
where they use a large aggregate. I've seen it used for walkways and sometimes driveways/parking lots. I'm guessing it doesn't take the kind of wear you'd have on roadways and why it's not used there :)

7. Thanks kentauros!
I thought it looked like an aggregate but I've never seen one with such big chunks.

8. You're welcome :)
I've seen people do a lot of weird things with asphalt, including using shells (like in a shell road) as aggregate, or using different colors of crushed glass to make permanent patterns/art :)

13. I knew that!
:P

I do know that asphalt made with shell-aggregate is the worst to try and walk on when you're barefoot :o

21. It's been twelve years now,
but I think the asphalt for our parking lot here was originally the same. Then it was repaved some years ago, so I forgot that tidbit. And yeah, it's real tough on bare feet. Can't imagine what it's like for animals... :(

9. Who's a pretty boy/girl?
.
.
.
.
.
Very nice -- not real fond of spiders, but I find snakes fascinating.
.
.
Used to do volunteer work for a local jr high teacher/herpetologist
with an AMAZING collection of animals. Let me feed everything but
the huge python (I was about 12-13 and he didn't want me to have
nightmares about screaming bunnies).
.
.
.
.
And that background surface.
.
.
.
Sure looks like a big ol' steaming slab of snakeschist to me.
.
.
.
What the hell that snake's been EATING?!?!?!?
.
.
.
.
Reminds me that "cloaca" is what I consider to be one of the
"dirtiest clean words" in the English language (a common
cavity/outlet for reproductive AND excretory purposes).

Nature is beautiful, but...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
...eew.

11. Killed one of those by the front door of the house two years ago.
Went out to call kitty in and he stopped. Dead stopped. Looked and he was face to face with copperhead.
Ran through house out back door and came around behind kitty who turned and let me grab him. Threw kitty in house. Ran for shovel and then just stood and watched. Damn snake was right next to the house
and I was afraid if I tried to kill him I'd miss. Eventually, snake turned away from house and was heading under the deck to the front door--and there was no way I was letting him get under there!

Took aim and severed the head from the body with one blow.

My heart was pounding like I'd run a marathon!
