DAMN it's cold this morning....
54 F in Arcata, CA. My office window is open-- I like fresh air-- but my fingers are so cold that I can't type! Gotta go get some hot coffee.

How cold is it where you live?

1. It was low 40s at 5 a.m. I know that because
The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger got in bed with us and demanded "warm-up belly rubs." That NEVER happens in July, but I've gotta admit that I enjoyed snugglin' the boy up.

2. *snort*
Yeah, we had a pack of kitties in bed this morning, too. 'Course we ALWAYS have a pack of kitties in bed in the AM. You know that warm spot under your chin where the blankets just reach? The one that makes you jump halfway to the ceiling when some furball sticks his cold wet nose into it for a good drooly face rub? Brrr...

3. Oh, Ginger's far too polite to put his cold nose on an exposed body part.
He sits politely on top of the covers between my feet and cries forlornly. If one of us doesn't quickly respond, he spelunks for the fleshiest part of thenearest nekkid toe.

4. We're Freezing Down Here in Atlanta Too
Temperatures are in the low 90's but expected to peak near 100 later today.

I'm wearing a heavy sweater, a parka, and a scarf, but I'm shivering here at my construction site.

Yeah, I used to live near Atlanta. Grew up in Georgia, actually. I've been out here in coastal norcal for almost 15 years now, and I simply cannot take the heat any longer. Oh, an afternoon inland in 100 degree heat is nice occasionally, even if just to remind myself that it's actually hot elsewhere-- and especially if I spend most of the time submerged in a river-- but generally speaking, I've acclimatized to weather that's nearly always on the lower side of 70F. I could do with less fog, though. It's mainly the fog cover that's keeping it so frigid this morning.

East of the Berkeley/Oakland hills should be around 90 this time of year but we're not expected to break 80 today -- I'm hoping we break 70 at this rate.

This summer has been very cool so far.

7. I just looked up and noticed a ray of sunlight penetrating the fog....
If it burns off soon we might break into the middle 60s today!
