The world's flags given letter grades

I love all the comments. Especially Angola, Central African Republic, the Congos, El Salvador, Libya, Montserrat, Pakistan, Paraguay, St. Vincent, and Zimbabwe.

That flag was catchy; it deserved at least an A-

Why does Argentina deserve a B for two cyan stripes with white in the middle? Aruba is more appealing!

Ditto for Austria, which copied Argentina but used bright blood red instead of cyan...

I like Brazil's, how is it the worst when compared to the above?! I don't get it...

But now I see why people knock Bulgaria...

I like his comment on Gibraltar...

India should replace the nondescript blue circle with a microchip. x(

Iraq's got a nice color scheme - better than Syria, but oh well... Syria kept the # of stars to a decent level.

Israel's flag also makes it stand out like a target, just as Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia had. Just a target of a different shape. It's not worthy of an A either, sorry.

Malaysia stole the US flag... or is it the other way around? Neither gets the plagiarism symbol. :eyes:

Moldova's symbol looks like the KAOS Eagle. :-)

Saint Kitts and Nevis is probably the best flag of the bunch.

Seychelles isn't bad either.

Tanzania is pretty cool too, I like the colors...

Shoulkdn't Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico have the "colonial" icon? They are our territories...

UK's flag is great. Not too busy.

Was there right after they gained independence. It is a great-looking flag.

...in grade school when I was assigned to reproduce the flag of Saudi Arabia (criticized for "weapons", "writing" and "graven images") for some history class event! Among others, there's the comment on the Saint Helena flag that's positively hilarious! I don't get the problem some have with "too many stars", though. Thanks for the amusing link.

Finland (I LOVE Finland -- not just the flag), Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Norway have the same design. Faroe Islands, too. Scandinavian solidarity! Had no idea they were all similarly designed.

but I don't think he has any sense of overall composition.

Zambia, for example, is a really bad arrangement for a flag, but he only comments on the color scheme. A lot of other small countries don't seem to know how to arrange the elements on a flag, either, but he rarely mentions that.

On the other hand, the Saudi flag is a classic, simple composition which he dislikes for some reason. South Korea's a pretty good icon, too. And he hates Brazil, which I personally think is the best of the South American flags.

But his site is redeemed by comments such as.

Brunei: Appears to involve a moustache sprouting from a flagpole.
Central African Republic: Do not attempt to disprove the four-colour theorem on your flag! (This goes for you, too, Mauritius).
Fiji: Features a picture of a lion rolling a cigarette (cf. Sri Lanka)
Montserrat: Features a picture of a woman crucifying a harp.
Zimbabwe: Features a hawk sitting on a toilet.

Black on top half, red on bottom half, yellow circle in the middle.

Catchy, distinct, meaningful, sparse. A++.

and fucking Libya has a B. Stupid green rectangle.

The white St. Andrews cross and simple blue field should earn it at least a B+.

He comes close to almost saying "too many stars!" when there is only one.

I like the Norweigan, British, and American flags. Red-white-and-blue color schemes.

I also like the flags that are more light blue w/ white like Finland, Greece, and Israel.

And, I like the Italian flag too.
