I'm starting a guys listening group tonight
Edited on Thu Jul-29-10 10:44 AM by bif
Here's the deal. My wife is in a book club. I have pretty much the same taste as they do, but I'm a guy so they won't let me in. I tried to get some friends together for a book club but no go. So I found myself talking about music all the time with male friends and we all decided to have a get together, have some snacks and drinks, and share music. Could be cool, could be weird. Tonight's the first meeting.

1. Anything is worth getting together with the guys and having a few beers and snacks!
Have fun!

3. If my wife's book club is any indication
Here's what I predict will happen, We'll spend the first hour or so listening to and discussing music. Then it'll be a conversational free-for-all.

4. my German friend took over her father's jazz club when he passed away
they meet once a month at her place but each meeting is sort of "hosted" by a different member. They choose the music and do a little lecture/lesson/prep type of presentation then have a discussion between and/or after cuts. Beer and snacks are always part of the meetings. Sounds fun, doesn't it?

5. Sounds wonderful!
I hope this turns out like that. Each person will play a couple of favorite discoveries. Maybe tell the group why they like it and give a little background about the artist. Play said music, then the group will discuss. And at the end, we'll probably request copies of our favorites. I know, it sounds pretty formal/corny, but I hope it's fun.

7. That's awesome.
I'd try that but everyone would leave 30 seconds into my first selection. :)

10. Sounds like fun!
Hanging-out nights can be a mind-saver.

My friends and I have Tuesday night-bad movie night. We specialize in bad movies, z-grade sci-fi, cult classics and weird horror.

It's always super-fun.

11. What a good idea!
And you don't have to call it a......support group or whatever, and cause all the guys to run away.
