"ON THE DRUMS...MISTER BUN E. CARLOS..."
Read an interview some time ago in which Carlos said that he was inspired by Ringo's drum solo on "Abbey Road," and that a classic drum solo didn't have to go on for six weeks like Ginger Baker's "Toad"...

..."Clock Strikes Ten," for me, accomplishes what Bun E. set out to do.

From "Live At Budokan," enjoy "Ain't That A Shame / Clock Strikes Ten."

2. Excellent innovative drummer...
He may have been influenced by others but he had mighty fine drumming of his own.

3. He's got a similar shining moment in "Never Had A Lot To Lose"...
...from the "Lap of Luxury" album. There's a little staccato rhythm guitar interlude from Rick Nielsen, and he comes out of that with a few Pete Townshend-style power chords, and Carlos matches him with Moon-style kicks. It's reminiscent of the interplay on "My Generation." Cheap Trick has always had a lot of layers, but whenever they kick into "Who Mode," they have my undivided attention.

4. Aint That a Shame
Yummy, yummy, chunky guitar licks.

That song changed the trajectory of my teenage years. I wanted to be Robin Zander when I grew up. I wore my hair long and blonde and sported around wearing a three-piece suit...for years.

What changed it even more was when my mother taught me that song was origianlly done by a black musician from new Orleans named Fats Domino. It seems that back in '54, Granpa O' did not approve of mom dancing on the sidewalks of Louisville, Kentucky with little black girls and singing race music around the house. My mom was and still is a rebel and I am thankful for it.

Thanks for the video. It brings back joyful memories of jumping around the house with a pool cue playing air guitar.
