I did it...
I contacted a lawyer today (several in fact) about my fall last week. I have an appointment set up to see one tomorrow. I took the advice of many here, family, and friends.

Are lawyers like doctors? Should I see more than one? I did a google check on the one I have an appt with tomorrow, didn't really show much.

I'm nervous now, I feel like I'm going to the principals office.

2. Hi one voice!
Well, I saw your pics the other day, but did not comment. In my opinion, you are doing the right thing by consulting now with a lawyer.

You would want to consult with a personal injury lawyer with a good track record and a good reputation. In my town, we have ambulance chasers...you want to stay away from those types.

Sit down and talk with a lawyer and have him/her give you advice. See if they will take your case on a contingency basis....no recovery, no fee. If you feel uncomfortable with the person you talk to, try another lawyer.

Good luck and feel better!

7. Thanks LFP!

I've started to do some research on the lawyers that called me back, there's not a lot out there on lawyers. I was worried a "quick" call back might indicate that they're an ambulance chaser.

The lawyer I'm seeing tomorrow is a personal injury lawyer and has been around for a while. He has free initial consultation and if he takes the case he does so on a contingency basis. So at least I have that much covered.

I don't know why I'm so nervous. My son will be going with me since he was there when it happened, plus I don't think it's a good idea for me drive (it's my right knee/leg)since I can barely bend it.

Thanks for the link below, I'm going to check it out.

5. How is your leg?
Based on the pictures I saw you did the right thing by contacting a lawyer.

I don't think it is necessary to see more than one as long as you feel comfortable with him/her when you have your consultation tomorrow. Most do not charge for consultations so you can opt to check out others if you wish.

Don't be nervous... you have done nothing wrong and if the lawyer is good he/she should make your feel relaxed and you will know you made the right decision.

9. My knee/leg is still very swollen..
and the swelling and bruising is spreading. It feels really tight and very warm to the touch. And it hurts. :-( Thanks for asking.

I know I didn't do anything wrong, I'm very intimidated by doctors (which is why I love my doc so much, he doesn't make me feel like that)and lawyers. I know it's dumb.

He did tell me on the phone that based on what I told him, I should see a lawyer even if it isn't him. I guess that's good.

11. My dear one_voice!
You are doing the right thing!

Hey, you're hiring him....NOT the other way around!

He (the lawyer, that is) needs to address your needs.

If I were you, I would stick with the guy tomorrow, IF he made me feel comfortable and answered my questions to my satisfaction.

It's YOUR call!

Take care, sweetie!

13. Go with your instinct at the interview...
There's a time, indeed, when you need a real shark of an ambulance chaser. We lucked out with the one we found when we needed one, and he's become a family friend.

We got the feeling he was the right guy when we first interviewed him (though we went through two or three others before finding him).

Good luck to you.

Redstone
