1. I was 15...
And I would be turning 16 on May 6th of that year. On April 1st, my mom told me that my dad would be buying me a brand new car for my birthday.

The hoax lasted for the whole month. On my birthday I got a little toy car. They laughed and laughed. I cried and cried. Good times. :(

2. Damn, that's just cruel
I remember being 16. That just could not possibly be funny. What else did they do to make your life miserable?

4. They weren't too bad...
I don't mean to portray them as evil or something. They were very supportive and loving parents for the most part. Still, I found the joke very cruel myself.

To a 16 year old, I think it seemed very serious.

3. I always prank my class...
I tell them that I'm going to prank them and they won't know it until I let them in on it. It works like a charm every year...

I let them think they're already pranked by pulling a small prank that they can catch me on.

Then I unleash the involved prank. Although I expect parent complaint, I've never gotten any. The kids are good about it and I let them collaborate with the principal to prank me back.

One year I got arrested for cheating on the FCAT, put in handcuffs, and put in the back of a police car...

The toxic classroom is on this year's slate, but I'm not telling until it's over. You all might tell the kids.

6. I like "All Things Considered" (NPR) on April Fool's Day
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 06:30 PM by Bertha Venation
They air a phoney report every year on that day. Last year it was an article about a Library of Congress project to put all current recordings on vinyl -- 78s, to be precise -- because someday someone, humans or visitors, may not have the technology to access our current recordings. But you can listen to a vinyl record album with a sharpened rock.

Ooh, they got letters of outrage about boondoggles and pork barrels....

edit: not yesterday -- it was last year. Gawd, my brain is addled . . . .

7. Discover Magazine
did one (about 10 years ago?) about finding a new mammal in the artic (or antartica).

They said that scientists had found a new type of mole that would bore through the ice. The mole had a lot of blood vessels running through the top of it's head and that gave the mole the ability to melt the ice in front of it so that it could burrow through the ice.

They even contrived a picture of a white mole with with a huge 'thing' on the top of it's head.

Unfortunately, some scientists and readers lacked a 'proper sense of humor' and believed it to be all-to-true, much to their own embarrassment.

I don't believe Discover has done any more 'April Fool's Jokes' in it's April issue since then, unless it was something highly noted and painfully obvious that "THIS IS A JOKE".
