1. Given the small cast it is probably the best sitcom of all time

5. Best small cast sitcom of all-time is Fawlty Towers
But it terms of American sitcoms, yeah, Seinfeld's close to the top of the list.

2. Never did anything for my funny bone
None of the characters were all that likeable and neurotic New Yorkers aren't that interesting anyway.

9. completely agree with you
never did like Seinfeld, and never found it funny.

Kramer was annoying, George was painful to watch, Jerry was kind of an idiot, Elaine was boring.

Never got why the show was so popular.

12. Same here.
Must be a generational thing. My kids loved it. I just never "got" the humor.

3. End-of-century narcissism in a nice, neat little nostalgic package.
The navel gazing and angst over petty and insignificant issues is pretty quaint now. I don't think a show has ever dated itself quite as quickly. It captured its time, though.

13. That's what makes it so brilliant, imo.
I laughed and laughed at every episode, but always felt slightly uneasy. The navel gazing and petty angst (and utter self-absorption of ALL the characters) was hidden in the funny.
Until, of course, the last episode.
Oddly enough, I can't watch Larry David's show. I'm infuriated by his navel gazing and self-absorption.

16. I'm on the other side
Seinfeld was a little too precious for me, but Curb Your Enthusiasm is hi-larious.

That's what makes horse races. To coin a phrase.

6. It was great. Most of them made me laugh (not all that easy),
and some would have me rolling. And I am not sure I agree that it dated itself quickly--or maybe I just remember those times too well.

7. Mostly great for how it laid bare the genre in its (then) current state.
The arc about them creating a sitcom ("Jerry!") was especially good-- first they settle on a story line about someone being sentenced to be Seinfeld's butler and then later on in the arc it folds in on itself and George (having wrecked his father's car) has to be his father's butler.

You know as painful as it is I had to let a few people go over the years. Yogi Berra, Lou Pinella, Bucky Dent, Billy Martin, Dallas Green, Dick Houser, Bill Virdon, Billy Martin, Scott Marrow, Billy Martin, Bob Lemmon, Billy Martin, Gene Michael, Buck Showalter...

Another show with intentionally unsympathetic characters: It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

14. Verily disagree...some really great episodes, some really memorable ones...
...but 90-95% of them were dull and forgettable...pretty bad acting, too.

Simpsons or SNL might be a distant second.
