Say we just throw the low-lying fruit into the trash can (McD, BK, JITB, etc) and we could submit local, state and national burger magicians...

Who would have the best, and who should be considered?

I have to put in In-N-Out and Kirk's Steakburgers (both from CA)

2. In an ulti-mage battle, I'd give it to Gandalf.
I don't think Merlin could stand up to him, burger-cooking-wise.

4. Five Guys.
Finished. Resolved. End of debate.

Any place that can place on Zagat Ratings with menu printable on a matchbook cover is going to own the competition. And they do. All 10 menu items are the best in their menu-item category for the price range. They don't just do it better than their competition, they do it like they were charging $15 instead of $5 a burger. They single-source the potatoes for the french fries because potatoes from Shelly, ID might taste different from taters from Russet, ID...and they do. The Shelly's are a bit sweeter and less earthy.

9. Mmmmmm
Love the fact that you can get jalepenos and grilled mushrooms on a burger. And the fries are better than sex.

11. Candidly,
I'm a vegetarian...I haven't had one of their burgers since I was in college. I get the vegetable sandwich with grilled onions, BBQ, mushrooms and jalapenos. Or I get a grilled cheese.

I love the fact that right before they give you your food they dump another full scoop of fries into the bag because the pint-cup they use for a small fry might not be enough fries, even at twice the size of a standard fast-food large fry.

And I love the free refills on soda.

6. Evos.
Their Championburger is not only better for you, but it tastes better than all that greasy crap. Plus it's vegan.

8. You used to eat meat, right?
How good would their veggieburger be compared against a beef one?

I would love to find a vegetarian alternative to the selfish seduction that is - a cheesburger

10. Tav, I'm a bad person to ask that question.
I did used to eat meat, and enjoyed it quite a bit too. But my only experience with fast food/chain burgers was limited to the usual dumpsters (McD, BK, Hardees, etc). Compared to those places, I'd still choose Evos just on taste alone. Ethics, ingredients and what have you aside. Now, up against the burgers that my mom made...by hand and cooked on the grill? I dunno...those were REALLY good.

...has a great turkey burger. Instead of fries, I get the hash browns.

The regular beef burgers are excellent, too.

If you're in the area, they're on Fair Oaks, north of Colorado Blvd.

BTW, they've been in business since 1930.

16. Best drive thru burger I've had is from Burger Street.

Best restaurant burger is from Snuffer's.

I'd like to try an In-N-Out burger some day, as I've heard people rave about them.

Then again, I heard people talking up Steak and Shake burgers, but when they finally opened some stores in my neck of the woods, I found them to be nothing special.
