CNN BREAKING: Upon returning from his Gulf trip, President Obama to tour basement of the Alamo

Obamas plan tour of Alamo basement

From a boat in Panama City, Florida, President Obama motions toward the approximate location of The Alamo, his next destination.

Panama City, Florida (CNN) -- President Obama toured the waters off Panama City Beach by boat on Sunday as he capped a weekend visit aimed at sparking a recovery in the region hard-hit by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

The president, first lady Michelle Obama and their younger daughter Sasha stood at the bow of the excursion boat watching porpoises jump around them.

Speaking before a Saturday afternoon dip with his daughter, Obama said his administration remains committed to ensuring a full cleanup and recovery for a region hard-hit by the disaster -- and expressed hope that his holiday on the beach would change public perception and soften the economic blow of the largest oil spill in U.S. history.

"As a result of the cleanup effort, beaches all along the Gulf Coast are clean, safe, and open for business," he said. "Now Michelle, Sasha, and I going to tour the basement of the Alamo. I understand it is quite inspirational."

2. Good for them! I found it to be the most moving part of all the national monuments I've been to.
The Alamo basement was for me a highly emotional experience. Almost embarrassingly emotional, and I'll never go there again because of it.

But it was absolutely worth it.

3. Wonder if he'll find PeeWee's bicycle?
funniest part of the movie, made even more funny by the recent emigre to Texas asking her friend loudly "What's so funny? Why is everyone laughing?"
