Poll question: Where should I go for the long weekend.
Gizmonic and I celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary this Labor Day weekend. We are thinking of a short flight somewhere. We're near Akron.

Where should we go?

1. Toledo
Just joking.

Seriously, pack the camping gear (tent) and hit I-80. Head to Cook Forest (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/cookforest.aspx - allows pets) or 11 miles more to Clear Creek (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/clearcreek.aspx - no pets). I've been to both and they are wonderful places.

4. Good idea, but Sweetie doesn't like camping.
A week later I'll be camping in PA for an amateur astronomy event.

Funny you mention Toledo. I lived there for two years and have no intention of ever returning.

:hi:

6. I passed through there once.
Cook Forest is wonderful. Talk her into it. You can get a trip 10 miles up the river (15-passenger van with a trailer filled with canoes) and just take your time floating down with the current. You'll see all kinds of wildlife, including great herons, cranes, deer, and the occasional bear, so keep the food in the car. They're the "Yogi and Boo-boo" kind of bears.

It's no fun for her.

10. Um...
WILD MONKEY SEX IN THE WOODS!!!!

Works for my wife!

That's not really fair. Her family spent a week in a cabin in Clear Creek State Park every summer when she was a kid. She loves camping. But it IS worth a try!!

19. You don't have to do the tent, get a nice cabin. Cooks Forest
is nice. Or Presque Isle in Erie is nice too, and if you like gambling (blah), there is a casino up there too. Or there are also cabins available at the Grand Canyon of PA, lots of trails, overlooks, and cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's

7. There's a google ad blocking being able to vote for the first choice.
Edited on Thu Aug-19-10 10:30 AM by mnhtnbb
:wtf:

I was able to get rid of the ad --but still can't vote for first choice.

Anybody else have this problem.

And yes, my pop-up blocking is enabled.

12. Hmmm, you seem ambivalent about the idea.
:D

Washington would probably be great, but I have one hang-up about it. The last time I was there in 1993 (the only time) it was to make a connecting flight at the airport. As we headed up to flying altitude, I could see the Capitol dome from the plane. My first reaction was that it was so cool to be able to see it. Then I remembered who works there--Congressmen busy selling out the public--and my heart sank and left me feeling sad.

13. NYC or DC.I was going to suggest Boston but it sounds like you're not really in the mood for that.
Besides, an anniversary trip should be light on visiting family & friends and heavy on fun.

14. My relatives are in central-western MA...
...so Boston would be a good choice, except I have been there like a million times. Probably my all-round favorite city.

Michigan. Rent a cabin. Sit outside in the evening with your honey by a little fire and have a beer or glass of wine. Catch some fish.

25. Philly has a ton of historical sites.
It's more than just the Hall and the Liberty Bell.

Check out this link. http://philadelphia.about.com/od/history/tp/top_10_historic_philadelphia.htm

Plus there is the food, the sports complex, South street, nightlife. All kinds of things to do here.

26. I voted for MA, but I'm half asleep and was thinking of Maryland...for the
seafood at Baltimore harbor...unless they don't have that any more, then I guess Boston still has chowder or something.

I need some coffee.

Have a great time, whatever...

28. Either Boston or DC
Boston because I LOVE Boston, or DC because I lived there when I was small.

If DC, do NOT miss the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. It sounds like drudgery, but I
promise you, on the inside, it is one of North America's most spectacular architectural marvels. Also,
just go to Wisconsin and M streets and walk up Wisconsin Ave. a few blocks and just enjoy the atmosphere
of Georgetown. It'll seem like downtown DC is a thousand miles (and 100 years) away.
