Wanna see some of the biggest pairs of balls on the planet?
.
.
.
Balls bigger n' clankier than the rest of our balls put together?
.
.
.
Do you think they can ride bicycles?
.
.
.
Maybe everybody but me has seen this (I don't watch too much TV but, um... had
some opportunities over the last few days).
.
If you've ever read accounts (the official ones are known as citations) of the
reasons that people are awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, you KNOW that
these are men (are there any women honorees?) who kept moving in moments that
would have paralyzed the majority of the BEST of the rest of us. Bravery. Duty.
Loyalty. Brotherhood. Yes, probably in some cases (and possibly self-admittedly)...
idiocy. Most died. A good number of the survivors have made PSA's welcoming their
newer brothers and sisters home and urging them to get help if and when needed --
to look beyond the shame and embarrassment of "needing" help.
.
If our returning soldiers are going to respect and listen to anyone, I surely
think these folks might have a chance of reaching them.
.
.
.
I recently returned home from a decidedly minor traumatic incident (relatively
speaking) and the warmth of your welcomes has done me immeasurable good.
.
I spent six years in the Army. I see the unbelievable numbers of my brothers on
the streets. I fear for the young men and women coming home from even MORE
uncertainty as far as redeployments, etc. I fear that we ain't seen NOTHIN' yet
when it comes to homeless Vets and Vets unable to cope with their demons.
.
The training is better. The counseling is better. The resources are better. But
it's STILL extremely hard for someone who has been a fucking WARRIOR... to ask
for help with what many see as "weakness".
.
If you know ANYONE who might have the slightest chance of benefiting from this,
PLEASE pass it along (pass it along to ALL Vets you know -- you may never know
what they're going through -- it's not something easily shared, even with other
brothers-and-sisters-in-arms, let alone (face it) an "outsider).

7. Great post and, yes, it should go on GD.
I believe everyone who serves in a combat zone is wounded and PTSD is a wound. Just because we can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there.

One woman has been awarded the MoH -- Dr Mary Edward Walker who was a surgeon with the Union Army. She was also a POW. She has several bios listed on Google; she lead a interesting life.
