True Blood recap! We now know what everyone is! *spoilers*
Edited on Mon Aug-23-10 10:46 AM by LynneSin
About time. For those of you who have not read the book or wiki, you were the few people out there that didn't know what Sookie was. Well now it's out - she's part Faery. I loved Sookie's response - "I'm a Faery? How Fucking Lame". Faeries were almost hunted to extinction by vampires because Faery is very intoxicating to Vampires. Even if they don't have faery traits (like Hadley) if they have the lineage their blood tastes better. I'm guessing that Jason also has some mighty tasty blood.

But while we were learnign who or what everyone was we were told about everything. Lafayette and Jesus are both some sort of Conjurer/Shaman types thanks to a whacked out V-trip those 2 took together. We also learned that Crystal was a Were-Panther (something again everyone who has read the books or wiki knew already) and that Holly was a wiccan, which she said as non-chalantly as "I'm a Virgo" or "I'm a vegetarian".

This was really a great week for Jason because he finally got some of his balls back. I loved how he started sucking face with Tara about 5 minutes before he confessed to being the one that killed Eggs. That should have some amazing fall-out. You had to appreciate how he stood up to Bill too. You go Jason!

Finally - Hoyt and Jessica together again. I swore Summer was created from the absolutely worst traits imaginable for any woman and I was a bit disappointed that they didn't show Hoyt giving her the boot. But I loved how she kicked some pitbull ass when Tommy (shaped into a pit bull) went after Hoyt. I'm hoping that this is not the last we see of Summer because I'm guessing she wont' let her "Bear" slip away without a fight.

Ok who spliced a section of "Lost" into "True Blood" last night. That flashback that Sam had was straight out of the "Lost" scriptwriting handbook and honestly, I thought it took a bad storyline and made it even 110% worse. I think the writers realized that the whole Sam/Mickens storyline was a lost cause and are trying their best to salvage it.

Probably the best part of the show was the last 15 minutes. Finally Eric and Sookie make out in RL and you can tell that she does have feelings for the guy. That is until Eric's sidekick Pam implored her to use Sookie to bargain with Russell. You could see a bit of Eric in Pam with the way she was devestated at the thought of losing her maker. Of course Eric ruined his chances with Sookie by dumping her in the dungeon. But I'm guessing Eric has a plan - let's hope so. BTW, notice that the word for "Gold-Digging Whore" in Swedish is "Gold-Digging Whore".

And finally, there wasn't much Russell time but when there was damn did Denis O'Hare just blow me away. This guy is so off the deep-end with grief that it was amazing sick to watch him with the prostitute he picked up and tried to make him to be his beloved "Talbot". I guess the prostitute doesn't watch much cable news else he would have known what a sicko Russell was.

EDIT NOTE: Congratulations to Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin who were married over the weekend.

I liked the Sam storyline better than the Mickens. That V-Trip that Lafayette and Jesus took was Fun and Funny.

I am ready for Summer to go.

and Yes, Jason was in rare form.

2. That was all me!
I still lump Sam in with the Mickens because it really was all about discovering who Sam was. I just thought the flashbacks were a bit corny and I really didn't like the look of slicked back Sam Merlotte.

are going somewhere with it but I like Sam's storyline least of all right now.

6. The V trip!
That was some very fun stuff going on there, both visually and content wise. I liked the cultural richness we saw from both Jesus's & Lafayette's backgrounds. I also liked how it was "supernatural" but not in such a fantasy way like the vamps/shifters/wrres are. And now we have Holly who is a Wiccan in the mix. Perhaps she may act as a facilitor or savior when the two explore their roots.

12. I thought they had a good blend of new characters and they did thin them out a bit
I've read where Russell and Alcide would be back in season #3 and I know Debbie showed up in later books, but not sure of her TV status. Crystal also plays a big part in future books. I loved Cooter and Franklin but obviously they won't be back although I suspect Franklin could show up to haunt Tara's dreams. My biggest hope is that all of the Mickens will be gone by end of the season. Oh Holly will be around come season #4 too.

15. hmmm...most of those are major characters and help drive the plot
(not all of those you mentioned, but most)...I am referring to all the peripheral ones...friends of friends....or parents of secondary characters.

I like Russell. Franklin got on my nerves. Alcide was OK. I have not made up my mind about Crystal or Holly.

who is Debbie...and Cooter ...??

and Arlene sure has gotten whiny(ier) this season.

I am through with the Mickens too, except for some reason, I find Tommy to be intriguing.

16. well here's some thoughts on some of those *spoilers if you haven't read the books*
Holly is a preview for season #4. She's kinda like Maryann, who popped in a few episodes season #1 to lay the groundwork for season #2. They did the same thing with Queen Sophie-Ann and Hadley at the end of season #2 (they would kick off the storyline for season #3). Debbie, Alcide, Russell and the folks from Hot Shot are all bigger factors in upcoming books. The Mickens and Jesus are not a part of the books so I have no clue what to expect with those folks. And Arlene's whiniest is for a reason too. We'll just leave the spoilers at that.

I love how Alan sets the pace for the show. He does cliffhangers but the cliffhangers start off the next season NOT wrap up the previous season. So there's a good chance all of these stories will be wrapped up the next 2 episodes and a small morsel of a tidbit will start off the next season (season #1 with the dead body in Andy Bellefleur's car and season #2 with Bill being kidnapped.). Call me crazy but I like it better that way. I hate the cliffhangers that make you wait 6 months plus to figure out how the season finished. Alan gives us that same type of cliffhanger but creates anticipation not annoyance.

As for Franklin I just adored him. It will be interesting to see if he is still a part of True Blood since his blood is in Tara which means he might pop up in her dreams to terrorize her a bit more.

and I know you liked Franklin...I didn't. He had some moments, I will admit but, overall NO.

and Tara has been terrorized enough. Almost to the point of parody.

I want to see more of Bill and Sookie and the Faries and more of Bon Temps.

I like the show just fine, I would have gone in another direction is all I am saying.

Everyone Hates Bill and to me, he is one of the most interesting characters on the show.

4. Another great episode!
Edited on Mon Aug-23-10 11:38 AM by Hell Hath No Fury
Once again, I think Ryan Kwanten is one of the best, most overlooked actors on that show -- his scene with Tara where he revealed he killed Eggs was really fantastic. I thought it was very interesting they "went there" with Tara's crush on Jason -- it actually fit right in with the emotion of the scene and the confession.

Bill is still choosing to lie his ass off to Sookie -- and with her telling Jason how hurtful it is when someone lies to you, you wonder if knowing the Queen sent Bill to spy on her/procure her will be the final straw for Sookie. I thought her response to finding out she was a fairy was funny! I think it reflected the viewers response to having "fairies" on the show. :D

Can I say say how much I love Jessica and Hoyt together? Those two crazy kids are just meant for each other. And I loved Hoyt's KO of Tommy -- no words, just a left straight to the the face. Sam is certainly going to find out Tommy was responsible - I wonder if that is what we see in the previews for next week -- Sam telling Tommy to get the heck out of his unit.

Damned, who knew sweet, even tempered Sam was hiding such a nasty background! He wasn't kidding when he said he'd done it all. :scared: Sam has always been one of my favorite characters and this revelation has me wondering if I can ever look at that character the same way. The man who was willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of his community shot someone in cold blood -- in the back, no less. :( I have to say, Trammells' scruffy growth sure does something for his looks -- cleaned up he is still attractive nut not nearly as hot.

Eric and Sookie. Wow. That was some whiplash the viewers experienced there between the two! :wow: I care about you, I'm making out with you, I want to protect you, oops!, time to chain you up (and not in the fun way!). I have a feeling from the previews that Eric is going to almost drain her so he can somehow confront Russell using the daylight to kill him. And I also suspect he will "save" Sookie after it is done and make Bill watch -- giving her that much of his blood will bind her that much more to him and fuck with Bill on a couple of levels. Eric is becoming an interesting character for me -- first season Eric was such the bored-with-life vamp that he was fun but one dimensional. I am liking all that we are discovering about him, including that he owns a shitty farm somehere. :D

With the revelation that Sookie is a fairy and it is thought that they are all but extinct completely ratchets up the danger level for Sookie and anyone in her family. Once word gets out that there are living fairy descendants there isn't going to be a safe place for any of them.

"save" Sookie and make Bill watch??? :puke:

that just grosses me out.

I don't know.

Some of this season has really bored me.

Tara is a trainwreck and

Sam's storyline is disruptive and not in a good way.

9. I like that concept about Eric using Sookie to save Russell
you're right, daytime is the only time he'll be able to kill Russell but who knows where Russell is hiding during the daytime and remember the guy will be surrounded by a bunch of v-hyped wolves.

I keep thinking there would be a suprise attack there by using Sookie as the bait. Eric can't kill Russell but perhaps if he uses Sookie has a trap for Russell that Bill will show up and do a sneak attack on Russell. I can't wait to see how this all plays out and what I love is that I will know before the season ends. It seems that TB will resolve all storylines by first half of the last episode and then spend the 2nd half of that last episode building the plot lines for the next season. Of course the way they are going timeline perhaps Arlene will have her baby sometime around season 12.

5. I can't believe there are only two...
episodes left! It flew by.

I also enjoyed watching Jessica kick Tommy's pitt bull ass. There is something very wrong with him. I think he's going to get into some deep shit, and Sam might end up in with him. Who knew Sam was such a bad ass.

I thought Franklin was off the deep end, till I saw Russell last night. He's stark raving crazy.

And Tara, how long till she goes on a killing spree? She not far from needing a padded room. Poor thing.

I'm pretty sure I know where the Jason/Crystal storyline is going, at least for Jason. I read the synopsis from the books on Amazon.com, so I cheated a little. :-) But still looking forward to seeing it play out.

And Eric! And Sookie! And Bill! OH MY!

Love Lafayette and Jesus together. I hope the continue with the Shaman/Conjurer storyline. Wonder if Holly will tie into it? Is she a good wiccan or not so good?

I wish the seasons were longer. :-(

10. I don't understand why they limit it to only 12 episodes per season.
My only guess is by keeping it 12 episodes it doesn't tire out the actors that play those roles. They are free enough to do other projects the rest of the year.

I mean the problem that could arise with True Blood is if one of the main actors decides to leave early, it would have major impact on the series since they are based on books. I mean if Paquin, Moyer or Skarsgaard quit then that pretty much shuts down the entire book line.

If they follow the trend like other popular HBO series like Sex and the City and The Sopranos - the last season they'll make an extension just to get as much out of it as possible.

14. WOW Great Episode
Though it was spoiled for me recently here on DU, I am still shocked that Sookie is a Fairy. I think people get a Disney feel about the term fairy. In literature, rarely are teh Fae lik etinkerbell. I read a lot of fantasy fiction and the fae are usually extremely powerful supes that often control other rhelms. Sometimes the Fae royalty are among the most powerful beings. Sookie is only half Fae and she can already dish out some power. I suspect a full-Fae will have a great deal of power. I will say I am interested in what Fae blood actually does to vamps.

So Lafayette and Jesus are wizards or at least "Shaman types." I think this is going to turn out bad for our hero LAfayette. I hope Jesus does not mess with him.

Crystal as a were-panther, wow, thats just sexy. something about the smooth black fur on that panther seems like a racecar, and if a racecar turned into a beautiful naked women on TV I'd probably explode. What I want to know is where are the were-rhinos or were-tyrannosaurs. I'd like to see the vamps take on were-velociraptors.

I too was troubled by the bad side of Sam. I don;t like Dark Sam. But at least now I understand what he was runnign from. Eric seeing the lawyer was classic. I love that there is no norse viking word for "Gold-Digging Whore".

Great show. I am hoping eric gets his revenge on Russell and Bill and Eric finally go at it over Sookie.

This was a story about an episode of the tv show that aired. It obviously will spoil that episode for anyone that has not seen it.
But a great many of us have never read the books and don;t want to know about what will happen in future stories.

29. I was acually responding to Lucian's post
The subject line reads "Wait...they revealed Sookie is part fairy before Jason becomes a werepanther?"

Having not read the books past the second book, I had no idea that Crystal was a werepanther until the last episode, which was a nice surprise. I thought she was a werewolf, but I really did not know there were werepanthers. I had no idea she, or her family, was going to turn Jason into one. Frankly, that probably spoiled a number of episodes and the Jason storyline for next season. Thats just not cool.
While Ball does not follow the books exactly, he does say that he will not depart from the main focus of he books. If he does choose to follow Jason turning into a supe, its ruined for me and anyone else who saw that subject line. Anyway, its just a tv show, so all things considered, its not like this is any kind of life changing news. I am not really all that upset. But that said, its one of the few avenues for mindless entertainment I have. I like to watch the show and talk about it without someone telling me what is going to happen next. There are plenty of people who want to talk about such things, and all it takes is starting a thread with teh title contains spoilers from the books, or something like that. Its just good form.

34. Actually it doesn't
It says "True Blood recap! We now know what everyone is! *spoilers*"
If you read that, you would know its a RECAP thread and the spoiled information is about the episode that just aired, not stuff that has not aired because its never been filmed.

If it was a thread about the books, you would be correct, but since its not, you are not.
