Montreal, 2 and a half years on - ask me anything!
As the endless summer is trying to wind down, I find myself totally at peace with my decision to bolt from the States. I shudder to think how unfathomably screwn I would be if I hadn't left when I did. The s.o. feels the same way, which helps.

1. I've lived in Montreal. There is a great vibe there. The whole french/english
thing over the years has kept Montreal underdeveloped. So it is a big city that still has old world charm. I love it.

7. We live just east of the downtown core
a couple of blocks from the Village (as in Teh Ghey). We're close to everything, and live in a kick-ass apartment. It's a lot more French than the west side of the island, but that's encouraged the s.o. to get on with it and learn the language. :)

4. Houston, TX
The weather here is, er, somewhat less humid. And the last two winters weren't all that cold.

8. I didn't realize how much I missed actual seasons until we moved here
I can't quite explain, but there's something about seasons that creates a natural rhythm to life. I like it, plus the pace of daily life is a lot more, I don't want to say slow, but measured, here. It just doesn't feel as hectic and insane.

3. why did you decide to leave? And how did you chose
Montreal? I don't want to ask anything too personal... just wondering. I've been thinking of handling a few projects from Finland, if I can swing it. The only problem is I have six beloved kitties and I don't want to be without them. :(

5. A rather harsh string of reversal of fortunes
Edited on Sat Aug-28-10 11:27 PM by kedrys
Combined with me being a Canadian citizen, and my family living here, made Montreal an obvious choice when we decided moving across town was just not going to cut it after loss of jobs, bankruptcy, foreclosure, etc.

We took our 6 cats with us - leaving them behind was not an option. My parents didn't quite get that part until they actually met the kitties and fell in love with all of them. Imhotep passed on 2 years ago, but the rest of the horde is in fine form.

This country is so much more sane than the U.S., it's not funny.

On edit: typo.
