1. Why? Can't Hollywood come up with a new idea anymore instead of remakes?

8. Yeah, dammit! And I hear that The Globe Theatre is doing "Hamlet" again this season
Why can't these hacks get some new material?

Like it or not, remakes have been a huge part of the entertainment industry for centuries.

10. There's a little difference between a live theatrical production and a movie.
Edited on Sun Aug-29-10 08:02 AM by hobbit709
And name me ONE remake that Hollywood has done in the last 20 years or so that's better than the original.
Or in most cases even as good as the original

12. The difference is that live remakes are accepted but filmed remakes are not
I'll allow that successive performances in the same run of a play are different from an original film versus its remake, but there is no difference between a revival of a play and a remake of a film. Why, in your view, is a live theatrical production of a revival so different from a studio remake of a film?

Regardless, high-quality remakes abound. Ocean's 11 is much better than the original, as is Casino Royale. Cronenberg's The Fly is far superior to the original, as is Donald Sutherland's version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Here are a few other suggestions:

Sure, the list isn't confined to the last 20 years, but that's an arbitrary criterion in any case.

And you neglected to indicate why, in your view, live theatrical revivals are different from filmed remakes.

I await your answer with great eagerness.

21. no talent asswipe
One of the two assholes that pranked a seventy plus year old man, telling him they fucked his granddaughter. I will never pay to see his work on anything. I hope this movie tanks. The only way it could be any good if is Helen Mirren rips his head off in the first scene and spends the rest of the movie spending his money.

Any chance of that?

22. I read about that
It was the actor who played Manuel on Fawlty Towers. But nobody should have to be subjected to that--respected actor or not.

I would pay to see Ms. Mirren rip his head off. Maybe we can start a Web campaign--?

casting dudley moore in that role was so perfect.

and the original cast was unforgettable.

i'll probably see it -- but the original was lovely.

Dud. Imitation ain't no good.
