3. Back when I was a kid, I used to watch the Weather Channel. Every day. For hours.

I was obsessed with the Weather Channel and I was convinced I was going to grow up to be a weatherman. I can't remember for sure, but I think I actually recorded some weather reports off TWC on the VCR. I also made cutouts of hurricanes and colored in the wind zones based on how fast the winds were blowing in that particular hurricane and taped them up on my bedroom wall.

5. Tornado of fire/fire whirl...

When we picture a tornado, most of us imagine a whirling column of air poking down from the clouds. But this tornado-like effect is not limited to just air. A fire tornado or fire whirl is just like a tornado but it's made of fire instead of air. As the heated air from the fire rises, strong air currents (often whipping through the trees) cause the air molecules to spin (often referred to as angular or rotational momentum) which shapes the flame into a tornado.

6. we get dust devils out here

they happen when thermals are rising off of flat landscapes
not very dangerous although they can trash a metal yard shed or awning occasionally

mostly they whirl through, spread a bunch of dirt and garbage around and then disappear:think:
