I think I've heard the worst Beatles cover, ever.
IMO, of course.

"Ticket To Ride" sung by Karen Carpenter, in the trademark Carpenter slow, soft-rock style. (urp) (gag)

1. Yea, I have to agree. However, I think Karen Carpenter had one
of the best voices ever. When she picked the songs that were right for her, IMO, she was one of the best.

8. Mrs Miller and Shatner did the songs as parody.
Karen Carpenter didn't.

13. "The Transformed Man" was not an attempt to make a parody record.
Edited on Sat Sep-04-10 09:59 PM by MilesColtrane
Only in retrospect has it been included with the self deprecating work of his late career.

After it got raked over the critical coals, and as Shatner began taking comedic roles that played on his earlier work, he grudgingly accepted the reinterpretation of the album by many as a joke.

At the time of its recording however it was conceived by Shatner as a project that married classic dramatic text and poetry with modern song lyrics, all with musical accompaniment.

For instance, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds is paired with Spleen (Quand le ciel bas et lourd) from "The Flowers of Evil" by Baudelaire.

Both the Carpenters and William Shatner recorded those particular Beatle songs as sincere tributes.

The fact that the version of LSD on "The Transformed Man" is so bad, it's laughable, while the Carpenters' Ticket To Ride is merely bad, means that Shatner wins.

11. Karen Carpenter was a tragic figure...
But I'm in the minority, I couldn't stand the way she sang. Pretentious and so white it felt like listening to clorox.

Ticket to Ride is a great song. The Carpenters ruined it.

And who the hell decided Judy Collins could sing "In my Life"? One of the most beautiful John Lennon songs ever!

My bad Beatle cover is the Standells, I Wanna Hold Your Hand from the MUNSTERS TV show. This was dubbed in Spanish and the song would have sounded better if it was dubbed in Spanish as well!

But they more than made up for it with their later hits.
