Let's talk about grill cleaning

I inherited a neighbor's nice big propane grill. The only problem is, I don't think he ever cleaned it. I've no clue where to begin.

Then some new ceramic briquettes for the rack.
If you can take it apart, do so and clean the propane jets.
Replace the hose if it looks beat up.
Replace any part that looks beat up, Lowes has parts for most grills.

This is a Sunbeam grill. I'm not sure of the dimensions. I'm sure I could find a model number on there somewhere under the charred grease!

Home Depot has Sunbeam parts, although Home Depot is a rightwing controlled company.

in the phone book that sells parts, too. I'd rather give them my money. Even if they're repigs, they can't do as much damage as the Home Despot guys!

They make new connections for propane grills in the past few years because the old ones had a tendency to blow off.

He was required to replace it in order to refill the tank.

You'll find completely new innards for most grills. If the outside is in good shape this will save mega dollars over a new one.

I've replaced my grills, burners, valves and igniter twice to keep my baby cooking for almost 20 years.

A wonderful, earth friendly way to clean and degrease a grill. Scrub the grill(s) thoroughly and rinse. Clean the burner, and if rusted or looking dicey, replace. Same with the hoses and connections. Replace the ceramic bricks. Purchase on of those wire grill brushes and use it before every use. And for a little flavor, soak some mesquite or hickory wood chunks in water, then throw in on top of the ceramic bricks, will add some great flavor. Enjoy!

I love my gas grill during the weekdays, I can come home and be cooking within minutes. But on the weekends, I'll take my charcoal smoker anytime. Much better flavor, but like many good things, it takes time.

1. cover the entire cooking surface (grids) with a sheet of aluminum foil.
2. light'er up.
3. close hood.

Stand by for lots of smoke and maybe some flame.
When there's no more smoke, the grill is clean.

If it's enameled, don't use a wire brush or abrasives on it.

Something that works pretty good for enameled ones is to stick it in your self-cleaning oven and run it through a cleaning cycle. Worked like a charm for me.
