HAve you or anyone you know ever been banned for life by a store or restaurant?
I have a high school friend who was banned from a store for 10 years because he was shoplifting. This was a deal they cut in return for the store not pressing charges.

The ban expired in 2004, but by then he was living 1500 miles away from our old home town.

2. That reminds me of something.
There are so many people that think they follow laws, but then forget or ignore the ones they don't like.

Gleaning of the fields.

I think on the shoplifters I stopped over the years, especially a lady that was stealing baby food. She was putting many jars in the baby cradle her baby was in. She was the first shoplifter that I did not call police on, and have thought on that awhile. She was also the last shoplifter I stopped.

Although I should have given her money right then, that experience did help me think on topics of some that are in need, and how not all laws address that issue.

I like to think she did not put all the baby food back on the shelf when I noticed what she was doing. I hope that is the case at least.

3. No, but I have self-imposed bans.
We have a running joke in my family because of how many places we won't go back to.

4. I'm pretty sure I have a preemptive lifetime ban from the most fashionable nightclubs,
but I'm not likely to test it... :)

Other than that, no.

6. Yeah, I'm banned from a local grocery store for shoplifting.
I worked there as a teenager and tried to walk out with some packs of baseball cards in my pocket. So of course they fired me and banned me for life. I think I've only been back a handful of times since then :)

8. How about an entire college campus.
My alma mater (which I'm not naming). I'm not allowed on campus for life because when they were opening the new student center (which had been opened to the administrative staff and work-studies a week earlier) they held a press conference and my fellow work-study student programs manager C and I decided to (their words) "simulate sodomy and sexual acts in varying degrees of undress" in the picture window behind the university president while he was speaking. (He wasn't a very nice man. He was accused but never charged in assisting in covering up the sex-abuse scandal in the Archdiocese of Boston.)

You couldn't see anything and we weren't actually doing anything but it ruined the footage for the 6PM news and it definitely looked like nasty naked sex was being had. In the aftermath, we were both fired. Then, they announced the commencement speaker was going to be John Ashcroft and I threatened in the school newspaper that I was going to "pie" him for supporting the death penalty and the war in Iraq. So they barred me from attending my own graduation, banned me from campus and mailed me my degree.

Then over the summer they fired every staffer in the office C and I worked in. That's the only thing I feel bad about. They weren't involved and shouldn't have been held responsible for our actions.

Every year though, I get my invitation from Alumni Services inviting me as a prominent alumni to the President's Reception...which is held on campus.

9. With my family? It was pretty routine.
My grandmother and brother were both caught shoplifting from TG&Y, at different times. Both banned for life. Other family members still living have had issues, too, which I won't get into since they are still living, but that involve drunkenness, fighting, stealing... The usual.

10. My BIL was threatened with arrest if he ever went back into a store. They accused him of
shoplifting, called the cops, and told him he was banned when the cops made it clear there weren't going to be any charges.

11. A husband and wife went to a marraige counsellor
to see if they could put the romance back in their marriage. He told them to take the routine out of their sex life. He suggested that if they felt amorous to act on it rather than wait for Tuesday night.

At their next appointment they reported great success. The husband said, "Doc, we were having dinner and I looked at my lovely wife and she looked at me and we immediately swept the dishes off the table and made love right then and there. It was great! Of course, they'll never let us back into that Denny's again."

12. I know several people that were 86'd
including one that was 86'd out of the old Texas Chili Parlor, which took real effort on her part since you could count the people banned from there on the fingers of one hand.

14. Yes. A friend of mine was just banned from the store right across the street
from her apartment because she gave something she was buying to her 1 year old to play with to keep him quiet, then forgot to pay for it on the way out the door.

And they pressed charges. For something that cost less than 5 dollars.

For several weeks one of the employees there had been following her and her fiance around when they were shopping. I suspect that the store thought they were shoplifting and jumped at the chance to press charges because of the long-term suspicion.

15. I was banned from the school store on my last day of high school.
We were having a class party and the teacher sent me and another student to pick some stuff up. I got the orders from my half of the room first so I walked down alone. I didn't bother looking at the note before handing it to the lady that ran the store. As I was picking up stuff she started yelling about how I had forged the note because it said from the store to room 340. I said it simple mistake by the teacher. She yelled even louder, "Listen here sweetheart..." I cut her off and said loudly, "Listen here my name isn't sweetheart." She then told me I was permanently banned from the store. We had to wear ID's so it would've been obvious to her I wad a senior. I grabbed my ID and asked if she was joking or if she was a joke. My friend from class walked in the store at that pointed. I handed my money and list to him and walked out.
