6. New Bedford, Massachusetts
One time home of Fredrick Douglass and Herman Melville. One time Whaling capital of the world. One time textile capital of North America. One time home to the most prosperous fishing port in the world (mid 1980s).

Now... looks like a third world country. But I still love it. I wish I lived there now.

92. Ya Baby!! Best Mexican food in the world is found on Evergreen street.
That little restaurant was the only place you would see blond folk calmly lined up on a side street in the heart of E.L.A. at night, that never ceased to bring a smile to my lips. Oh man the Beef Enchilada Rancheras are the best in the world. My ex grew up on Eagle Street a few blocks from El Tepeyac. After we got together we moved into her old house near there (less than a 5 minute drive). As a high schooler she worked there, and was on a first name basis with the owner. Before meeting Maria I had gone there with my parents and grandparents on both sides on rare occasions but had forgotten about it.

When she reintroduced me to "Manual's" (that's what some of the locals call it) we would go together at least 3-5 times a month, plus take out almost ever week. Even so I would have to sneak over there with buddies more then I care to admit (I'm then and now a high stress desk jockey, and Maria was an RN and concerned with my diet). Manual (the owner, non locals mistake him for an old bus boy) during lunch keeps a jug of tequila behind the counter and pours a sip gratis for the regular customers, god I love that place!

P.S. going to the June DU get together? we could meet THERE for a bite!

Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 09:04 PM by bigwillq
My parents house in Ansonia, CT and my condo that I share with my boyfriend in Waterbury, CT

The reason I still live with my folks is b/c I work a lot of nights sometimes not getting out until 1 or 2 in the morning. It is easier to drive 10 minutes to sleep on my folks house instead of 45 mins to sleep at my condo.

I know it's weird but it justs works out best for all involvesd. I man has a daughter and a nephew to watch for and he's usually in bed by 10 cause he works in the morning and has to get up with the kids at 6. I usually don't fall asleep until 3 or 4 in the morning.

Sorry, if I was babbling.

edit: Spelling in subject

Now living in Denver after enjoying the Western Slope & mountains for 20 years.

Don't even think of moving here, especially from California - they're lying about that sunny CO weather, it actually sucks; freepers everywhere, not a librul to be found; too crowded, too expensive, nothing to do. We're all masochists in Denver.

121. I don't know, really.
The West Valley seems to be a bit more liberal than the East Valley, but that's an over-generalization that probably wouldn't really hold water. I just don't know, to be honest. We don't talk about politics much out here, in mixed company, anyway. I was always brought up it was rude to talk about politics, religion and money! Now, whether that's an Arizona thing, I couldn't tell you that, either. My mother's from the northeast and my dad's from the southeast. I have a pretty broad background, Yankees and Confederates, and they both taught me that. Maybe that's how they got along!

You lived in Arizona enough to know we're pretty much a live and let live place, (some people call that apathy), but the polls tend to go Republican for some reason. I think that's changing. We shall see.

122. I lived in AZ before I was mature enough to understand politics
If you look closely enough, you will note that I also indicated how old I was when I lived in AZ (and GA, and IL...)

I didn't really grasp politics until about 1997 or 1998, after I had moved out of AZ. Keep in mind that I'm only 18 now.

Born Santa Monica California... Raised there & Malibu, CA.

However, in asking where i'm from, i'd not say there... I have
had roots transplanted so many times. Some people root in one place
for so long that "where they are from" is actually relevant, whereas,
I am from wherever i live.

Today, I am from the north scottish highlands.

Tomorrow, i might be from Swtizerland.

The next day i might be from Vancouver.

Really i'm from earth... and do nt identify with a patch of turf
as my personage.
