I look as though I had a lip injection...on one side only!...
damn canker sore! I think it has to do with when I eat something minty. I ate an atomic fireball and a few days later I had the start of a sore in my mouth. Now, it's swollen to the point of looking like a lip injection! Not asking for medical advice, but since the mods are busy with the mammoth thread...

Anyone else get these and what can you do for them?

:*

1. Chloraseptic (generic version is MUCH cheaper) - works great.
It hurts like hell, but putting salt directly on it will reduce the swelling and help it heal quicker. I've had the damn things since I was a toddler. It is a systemic virus that never goes away entirely. I've seen diet-type hints on how to reduce it but don't believe any of them. If I remember correctly, it is a type of herpes and as such comes in waves. At any rate, the fuckers are evil.

2. Last time, I did the salt water gargling...
and it helped. This time IT HURTS LIKE HELL! I'll keep it up but damn, I'd rather give birth. I thought I was going to pass out.

Thank you.

I'm whining. :(

3. Screw the salt water gargle - you have to just put a salt paste directly on the thing and scream.
It hurts like hell, but it does hasten the recovery.

5. cold sores are the thing caused by the herpes virus
I could be mistaken, but I dont think canker sores are the same thing.

4. I buy oreganol P73 at the health food store
in the liquid drop form. It is expensive(about thirty dollars a bottle)and tastes horrible, but I have used it on a canker sore and had them go away in two to three days. Before Oreganol P73, they would take two weeks to go away.

I used to be prone to canker sores because I have a bad habit of biting this one place on my lip where it is bumpy from having had stitches when my teeth sliced all the way through my lip during an automobile accident.

6. Silver nitrate. My mom has them. Burns the canker right off. But I think you need a prescription.
