Does anyone here have a "drive-under" garage in their basement? Have you found that
your home insurance costs are much higher than previous homes that didn't have one?

1. I didn't have one until I came home from the Super Bowl party last year. What insurance?

5. Yes, because of the increased fire risk of having a gasolene
tank in your basement and the possibility of fumes getting into the house.

6. Well, that makes sense. Is it a really big increase though? To the point that the
convenience of the garage is negated?

7. Around the corner from my house a man died who started his car
(to warm it up I think) and then fell back asleep in a bedroom right over the garage. Could that be one reason why it is more expensive? Be careful anyhoo.

9. Yeah, that's scary since the kids' rooms would be up there. Will have to make sure the car is backed
if it's going to get warmed up, I guess.

8. The only car that would fit into our underground garage
is a Model T. Or a Mini-Cooper. The house is that old, it might even have been intended to keep a horse buggy in, there are still wrought iron horse rings all over the city. It's really a moot point since neither my Mom or I drive or own a car. That said, yeah, potentially explosive object under one's house is actually a decent reason for higher insurance.

10. Wow, yours sounds really cool. Yeah I can see why it would be higher.

11. A friend of mine had a house fire that started with a fire in
her car in her garage. I think some policies charge less for a 'detached' garage then one attached to the house in any fashion.
