I opened my birthday present from my parents a day early.
I knew what it was: Sibley's Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America. I had just seen a bird that I wanted to identify. Like I thought, it was a Yellow Warbler. Now I need a butterfly/moth book. Dad was a professor of entomology, so maybe I can get one from his collection. I saw a beautiful swallow-tail moth today. I am enchanted with the flora and fauna of these mountains.

1. Better admire them while you still can

If Dubya gets elected in November they might all be extinct pretty soon.

2. "Flora and fauna?" What kind of sissy talk is that for a Texan?

4. In Texas substitute the terms Oil and Gas.
But I ain't in Texas anymore. As Dr. King said: "Free at last!"

3. kaufmann's butterfly book not bad
In fact, I like Kaufmann's bird book as well because of its light weight -- Sibley's is a "car" guide for me but I need both western and eastern species because so many western species winter at least occasionally on the Gulf Coast.

I'm not sure where to go for a good moth guide. There are a lot of moths, and you could be looking at a sizeable text. I'm not too good with the smaller butterflies but I have found that if I take a digital picture (even a bad one) I can blow it up on the computer and often get an ID by comparing it to the illustrations in Kaufmann.

Share us the name of your moth guide if your dad has a good one.
